DrKnute

Dec 18, 2005, 11:33 PM
Here you go....enjoy your new phone 😁

-Edit your mp3 to the size you want (30 seconds is fine)

-Right click the file and rename the mp3 from .mp3 to .3gp

-make sure your phone is in "mass storage" mode (Phone Settings -> USB Settings)

-connect your phone to the computer with the supplied cable and copy over to your t-flash card

-unplug, find the file, and set as main ringer or caller id ringer 😉

DrDnute, great job! I tried all sorts of other things but didn't even think to try that.
Thank god we got a way to set custom ringtones !

pogipinoy, you need to goto folder options and check the option that lets you see the file extentions in windows.

Under tools, go to folder options, then go to view, make sure hide file extensions is not checked. Your file extension will be visible after that, then just single click on the file in explorer, wait a split second and click on the file name again, this will give you the ability to change the name and file extension or just one or the other. Or you could just right click on the file and select rename to get the same effect. Enjoy. 🙂

Do you have to cut the song down or is this done for saving space.
...
DrKnute

Dec 19, 2005, 3:41 PM
No, you don't need to cut it down. I cut them sometimes when I want to use a specific part of the song. It also saves space until I get the 1GB card when it comes out. 😉

I was just as frustrated as you guys. I can't take credit for figuring it out. I found this out in another forum. I was getting close in finding a workaround, because in the manual it says that video files can be used as caller id ringtones. I just didn't think it would be this simple!

I check out this website quite often. Great info and people. So I felt obligated to pass on this trick. 😉

I had a similar problem so I'll try to explain it as thoroughly as possible.

Open up a window (not in Internet Explorer/Firefox).

Go to Tools (inbetween favorites and help).

Go to Folder Options.

Click the View Tab.

Under Advanced settings, scroll down and uncheck the box that says "Hide Extensions for Known file types."

Click apply.

When you find your mp3, you should be able to see the file extension where it says .mp3. Change it from .mp3 to .3gp. Transfer the file to your phone and it should be recognized..

Hope it helps!

My phone disconnects once I put it in Mass Storage mode. I need to leave it in Modem mode or else it won't read the phone to my pc. Once I renamed the file ___.3gp, I try to open it in my samsung edit sounds program and it says "File Format Not Supported." Any suggestions to what I'm doing wrong??

Do this exactly and you should be fine...

CLOSE SAMSUNG PC STUDIO 3 PROGRAM you don't need it for this.

Put your phone in mass storage mode

Plug it into your computer

A window should pop up on your computer screen asking "What do you want windows to do?"

Click on "Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer"

(This should bring up the folders in your phone's T-flash card)

Open the music folder

Open a NEW window with your .3Gp file

copy and paste into the music folder

You should be good to go 😉

Ok this is what happens.

Put in mass storage mode.
Plug it into my computer.
No window pops up.
Therefore can't "open folder to view files using windows explorer" because I don't have any folders in my phone's T-flash card.
The rest I cant do...

Nothing happens when I put my T-flash card into the side slot. This is soo frustrating I don't understand how it works for everyone else. Thanks for attempting to help me I know how frustrating this can be for the ones helping me.

Pair the phone, rename your mp3s to .3gp, then copy them to the "Sounds" folder on the memory card. Go into file manager on the phone, open the memory card sounds folder, then move or copy them to the phone (thru the options menu). They will now be available as ringtones.

ok this is what i do. After i name my mp3 to .3gp i take the small disc out my phone and slide it in the bigger dis, then put it in my computer.

go to MY computer find the disc and open it. There should be severel folders in there open the one that says music.

you can copy and paste it. if you have both windows open (the music folder and the one with your 3gp) you can just drag the 3gp in your music folder.

THen proceed to put the disc back in your phone. To find it go to fun&apps, then file manager, then memory card. Open the music folder, find your new 3gp then go to the option to move it to the phone. YOu will then find it in your music folder in your phone and can now set it as a ringtone.
if you couldnt get this i can show...

Ok, i did everything that it says to do! Changed the file extension, sent it to my phone as a .3gp file. I even got my phone to recognize that it was a ringtone, but when i got to select it as a ringtone, it doesn't play the song, and when i try to save it, it tells me "not supported content". It lets me select it as a tone, but it won't let me save it. Maybe i'm doing something wrong? I'm not quite sure though...if anyone could help me out here, i would REALLY appreciate it!

So I got some of the songs transferred, but when I went to do it again and add more songs (as 3gp files) it loads to the memory card, but doesn't play, and it appears to have a different icon (a camcorder-type icon as opposed to the usual music notes icon) next to the file name. Not sure why this would be.

im having trouble getting the file on the phone. i changed the extension to 3gp.

i goto my computer, and it shows me a removable drive which is the phone connected to the pc. i open that up and it shows me 5 folders. sounds, images, videos, music, and other files.

i put the mp3 (which is now a .3gp) into the music folder and its there. but wen i goto my phones music folder, its empty.....

just to check, i created a folder named after myself and put it in the music folder. i went to see if it was in my phone and it was under music, where i put it.

the file im adding is 5000K, maybe thats the reason its not working?

if it is, can someone plz help me make the songs shorter? wat program can i use to do that?

if thats not the p...

I followed the exact directions but I got into few problems I was hoping someone can help me with. When I put my new 30 second songs on my phone it goes to my memory card like it is supposed to but when I look at the songs on my phone they have some kind of camcorder image next to them. When I move the songs from my memory card to my phone it gets sent to my other files folder. When I go into the other files folder all the songs have and image of a X. So I press option on them and there is nothing that can be done to set as ring tone. The only options that is really there is copy/move to phone/memory card. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Is there a programs that is perferred to download the mp3s?
