Changing message sound

Is there a way to change the alert sound when getting a text or mms message?

start/settings/sounds and notifications...then choose from drop down menu.

Thanks.. does anyone know if you can create your own message alert tone and if you can how?

I've search through this forum and HoFo and can't seem to find a good answer...

message alert tones must be in .wav format to be used.
