MPTworks, but Multimedia center disabled

fizk

I thank all of you for useful infornmation about setting up Mobile Phone tools with V3c. It works and I was able to synchronize my outlook with V3c. However, the multimedia center button in MPT is disabled, any idea how to fix it? I also would like to know how to transfer ringtones to v3c through MPT.

Thanks in advance

Two thoughts.

Did you download the most current driver:

http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/DriverTool.zip »

After installing MPT Ver. 3.23

http://evanzhang.com/mpt323.exe »

did you live update to Ver. 3.28 dated: 7/13/2005

============================================= =

==> First download http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/Driver Tool.zip

==> Run the tool with the phone not connected.

==> Once the driver tool is done, then connect the phone via USB. Let MS do its thing in recognizing the "modem"

==> You need the latests Motorola Mobile Phone Tools. If you do not have the latest (3.28 ) open MPT and get to the point where you have the phone skin pop up, this will be some generic phone picture. Hit the menu but...

I have been reading your comments and appreciate very much your help. I did everything you suggested. My device driver reads ver. 3.4.0.0 as you said (except the "location" has a zero instead of an underscore). I updated to MPT version 3.28. The phone looks just like my V3c, and I'm able to sync contacts and appointments with no problems. However, the multimedia button is "grayed" (unavailable). Therefore, I cannot transfer pictures or other files between the computer and the phone. Do you think that this could be because my phone is one of those that does not have OBEX enabled? (Can you tell me what OBEX is?)
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks!

I have alltel so this may not work for you. The way I transfered ringtones and pictures is by using a bluetooth dongle. I just loaded mpt on my computer and didn't get it to recognize my phone. This was so I could use the multimedia studio. I edited the ringtones and then I saved them. Then I used the software that came with the dongle to transfer the ringtones to my phone. hope this helps

V3 is what I selected.

I wish for the benifit of all those that are finding the MultiMedia Center disabled that I had an answer. I've repeated the steps that I took....all to the thanks of those who have contributed to this forum.... and everything words just fine. I transfered half a dozen pictures and a couple of ringtones. All Ok.
Will I strip my phone and go through the steps again to find what might be a glitch ..... not on your life. Maybe I was just lucky.

I'm happy 🙂 Sorry I can't be of more help.

Jay: One more question please: BlaznSadlz says that V3c was not on his list. You say that you selected the V3. On my list, V3 does not appear, but V3c does, and that is the one that is automatically selected. I wonder if this could make a difference. I think we're all using the same drivers and version f MPT (3.2😎. The only other choice I could make was "Generic CDMA," and this produced the same results - no multimedia center.

Does anyone have any insight to this?

I used "Generic CDMA" for the first run of MPT, before doing the live update. It gave me a goofy generic phone picture on my computer screen...and almost everything was grayed out. As soon as I did the live update to 3.28 and re-started MPT the pictured phone was a Razor V3....the "c" part I'm not sure.

Ok, I just connected my phone....launched MPT and up pops a Razr V3 with Motorola on the phone and Verizon on the depected screen.

It took maybe 5 or 10 seconds, a few beeps and all of the menu buttons come to life, one at a time. Don't be too hasty here...the menu button collors are a little weak until you mouse over them. Even then the only one that really changes color is the top one .. create an Internet Connection. The rest ju...

Jay,
Can you post your phone's "System" information. I have a feeling that some of the more recent RAZRS (like the one I got today) has been disabled for mpt multimedia and for obex file transfer! I'm stuck and unhappy.

Mine is:

S/W: GATW_01.0F.02
PRL: 50463
ERI: 4
BREW: Version 3.1.2

Not really sure what any of this means but thought this may identify the trouble some of us are having.

Considering that the Product Launch was Dec. 12th. I have to believe Verizon had a hundred thousand + boxed and in distribution. No chance to change anything until the next container comes in from China.

From what I have read all you need is a plain vanilla USB cable. I am using the one that came with a camera. Others have picked them up a Radio Shack.

After a lot of trial and error, I was able to get to use the Multimedia Center with the V3c. I could not get it to work by selecting either the V3c or the Generic CDMA (I did not have a V3 choice available). I also tried the E815, which did not work. However, when I selected the E815m (the "m" is important), I got a picture of a different phone, but the Multimedia Center icon was available, and the functions seem to work. When I display the system information, I get much the same answer as Jay (same versions, same "V3c" but with a different IMEI number).

When I first opened the Mobile Explorer, I did not see any of the files that were shipped with the phone. However, when I took a photo, it did appear, and I was able to copy it to my...

I've been trying to work around the same problem all evening. Just got my v3c today...

Where exactly in the mpt process did you "select" the e815M? Do you have to change the driver selection?

Appreciate any advice you could give here.

When I try to sync my calendar to my phone why does it says "this event not yet saved. Select save changes to update your phone"?

The way MPT works is to first make edits on your PC screen and then save them to either the phone or to the PC, depending on what you're trying to do. After selecting the calendar items you want to sync, you will need to save the changes to your phone. It worked for me. I was able to sync calendar items in either direction.

With MPT running, select Setup from the menu button (or press F6). On the Communication tab select Change Modem. Press Next a couple times to change the Motorola modem settings. On the "Detect Driver" page, check the box at the bottom that says "Do not automatically detect ... Select from list." On the next page, select Motorola CDMA on the left and then E815m on the right side. (You can try selecting V3c on the right, but this did not enable the multimedia center for me.)

Well, the work around using the E815M driver works for awhile and then I get an error message that the "phone has disabled the communication link."

I'm able to get a couple files over before this happens.

A better workaround still needs to be found but this at least is a great start!

Thanks

Yes, it works when I change the phone to E815M

Jay, you got some magical phone, none of us can make Multimedia to work with V3c.

Only difference I can see if your phone's PRL is 50461, ours is 50463. Everything else same.

I moved a few RingTones to the phone with the MultiMedia Center and ended up deleating them and moving them with Explorer. MediaCenter wanted to convert the files and I wanted them to remain un-converted. I moved four ring tones from my i600 to the Razr. By using MPT Explorer they came out just as they were in the i600 and loud .... which is what I wanted, since I had toned them up a bit a few yeas ago.

USE BITPIM. I used bitpim's file manager today and had no problems moving any and all files around. Select "Other CDMA" phone as the default phone profile.

Hi,
I have not tried any of this yet, but I read somewhere that someone picked the razr gsm version in MPT and that got Multimedia Center to work. Don't know if this helps or is even possible but did not read anything about it here.

Hi,
I had the exact same problem as the original poster mentioned. My V3C is connected via USB to the Mobile Phone Tools and I got everything working fine EXCEPT the Multimedia Studio was disabled.
The only way around it is to go into Manual Configuration (F6) and change the modem to the original Razr V3 (under Motorola GSM). I was then able to use the Multimedia Studio. If I change it back to V3C (under Motorola CDMA), it gets greyed out. BVRP must have added some logic into MPT to disable the studio if the V3C is detected.
Hope this helps someone as we all plod through this shoddy software.

My friend and I tried several different phones. We found that if you choose v262 it opens multimedia and still lets you use every other function as if you picked razr.
