Is there a fix for the bad 'keyguard'?

As much as I love the 9800, the keyguard is HORRIBLE!

I had a OLD Sprint phone (Kyocera something), and the keyguard was awesome. You had to hit 123 to unlock it. Any interruption would make you start over - ie 1243 wouldn't work - as soon as you hit the 4, you'd have to start over with 123. Basically, any key then hitting OK unlocks the phone. And it's happened a few times already - I'd bump a key, then bump OK.

Any fix for this?

You can set the keyguard to lock at different times from 7 seconds up to I think 30 seconds. When I first got my phone, I was always dialing the Operator by accident because I would hit the Zero button then Send when I was putting the phone back into the holster after a call. Now I have the keyguard set at 7 seconds. That put an end to calls to the operator!

Yeah, I've got the keyguard set at 7 seconds, but the problem is all you have to do to unlock the keyguard is hit any key, then OK. A good keyguard would require you to enter a combination of two (or more) specific keys in sucession, i.e. Clear then OK, or as one phone I had, 123.

Do you put the phone in your pocket, or a holster/case?

In a case. But at least twice, it's bumped a button then OK. I think once was in a car (guessing it hit the seatbelt), and can't recall the other place.

Well, try putting it in upside down, or backwards..

You know, some completely opposite way than how you're carrying it right now. That may help. Just a thought.

ok the bad 'keyguard' isn't a problem if you want to put in a password then lock your phone its easy push and hold the "x" button for 3-5 seconds the phone will lock, to unlock it you have to push the unlock key and put in your pw which by default is last four of mtn, unless you change it to what you want, i mean come on RTFM

Thanks, I have read the manual. Didn't really think of the 'phone lock' as an idea as you have to open the phone and hold down X, and then to unlock it, hit a soft key, then 4 numbers. Something in the middle would be nice, ie 3 keys in sucession to unlock.

On other phones you can use the lock feature by pressing and holding the # key. The unlock process is then the same, but at least you wouldn't have to open the phone.

I understand how to lock and unlock the phone, however my complaint is to lock the phone, you hold down #, to unlock it, you only need to hit basically any number of keys and then OK - so basically if you bump any key then OK, the phone is unlocked.
