How is the battery life and reception?
Was just wondering how many days this phone will go without charging the battery. Also how is the reception? Is it as good as the E815? Thanks!

There is no definite answer to this... It depends on usage, and type of usage..
I live in a non-EVDO area so my phone is constantly searching for EVDO, which drains the battery much faster. It's down to 2 or 3 bars at the end of the day so, basically, I charge it every night.
With all the multimedia features this phone has been loaded with, I really donot forsee a 199 hr standy-by time!
Now that VZW has an extended battery for this phone, I'm getting one... along with the data cable for the VX6100 [ which works for this phone too đ ]

I don't know how, but it's been posted on other forums that you can turn the EVDO off. I thought it only searched for it when you were near an area that had it or went in and out of an area that had it? I don't have it in my area either, and it has never gone back and forth. It's always on 1X.

I've read that you can turn off the EVDO search as well, and once you do this, battery power is really good. I'm not sure how to do it myself, but I'm sure someone around here could help you out.

Hey, so how is the reception. I travel a lot and i hate going in and out of service. Overall what kind of reception have you recieved with the 9800? East Coast people, your opinions are especially helpful to my question.

I am on day 3 of the 9800 evaluation and I am still evaluating the reception. There is an issue which I am watching and that is on 3 occasions, I experience weak ear volume which lasted just a brief period of time. Really do not know what that's about. The receive level became weak and then returned to normal. Lasted maybe 10 to 15 seconds.

I just purchased the 9800 and I agree with the report from Rahul. There are so many features and with any exploring of these features and any heavy usage, the battery will need charging more often than expected. I was wondering if in place of getting an extended battery (I read somewhere is was only a 1700mAh which isn't much of an increase [1300 to 1700] but another problem was it doesn't allow the phone to sit flat anymore). The extended battery has that "hump".
Why not purchase a second 1300mAh? This keeps the battery hump out and gives a greater extension of battery life. Or does changing batteries create a problem I am not aware of?

Runnman, the extended battery is 2100mAh. I checked it out at the Verizon store and it does have that ugly *hump* âšī¸
I agree with buying a second 1300mAh battery as a spare over the extended one. However, I'd wait for the generics to show up on e-bay đ .. They always seem to work just as good as the OEMs!.. and it helps when you buy more than one spare đ¤Ŗ
Finally, from what I've gathered at Howard Forums, this one, and a few others... there is no known adverse affect from swapping batteries.
