Faceplates?

quasistatic

I saw a post where someone linked to replacement faceplates on eBay. Can anyone confirm if these are legit? Will they be sold in more reputable places eventually? Is it easy to take the front faceplate off the phone?

I've been babying the phone ever since I got it (~1 month ago; yes, I have the call log and contact issue 🙂 b/c I didn't want to scratch the screen, but if I can just get a new faceplate when it gets scratched then I'm going to love this phone even more.

Thanks for any info!

1. I think eBay is reputable. Just stick to sellers with 98% or above ratings, which most all are. Personally, I like the silver.

2. I have never replaced a face plate. I don't image it is too difficult.

3. Why not just get a Krusell case for your phone ? I have a few scuffs on the plastic that covers the screen. If not for the case, they would be on my screen. Also, the Krusell case has plastic to cover the key pad. It does not interfer for me, with pushing the keys at all. Krusell makes a glove fit case. Best case of any to be had. Also, with a case, it takes some of the impact off if you are to drop your phone.

I agree that eBay is reputable, I was just worried about the seller. I was particularly worried about the experience the other replier had. I'm more curious about whether or not I'll eventually be able to get an actual Nokia faceplate for this phone. It seems like the answer is yes, but I haven't found it anywhere yet. Probably just due to the newness of the phone.

I've considered the Krussell, but I don't want to make the phone any bigger. I carry it in my pocket and don't want to clip it onto my belt. How much size does that case add?

Thanks!

I got a white faceplate that supplier on ebay. It is not an original faceplate from Nokia. I think the faceplate would have looked okay if it didn't arrive all dirty and scratched up. 😡

I ended up buying an orginal Nokia faceplate from l8shop.net. It was quite expensive, but I think it was worth it. My phone looks great. 🙂

How did you get it on your phone?? I don't think that is a task I would personally want to tackle, but would love a pearl one.

I think I like the looks of the E60 better. But they are not talking currently of making one with the 850 band on it. I was talking with someone that said a friend said (at least it wasn't a friend of a friend of a....) that you have have the frequencies tweaked to your needs. Anyone ever hear of that being possible ?

What do you like about the 60 as opposed to the 70? For me, the 70 with the keyboard, 70mb of internal memory and screen size is why my choice is the 70. Not sure about changing the frequencies. Seems risky.

I'm not sure how crazy I am about those fold out keyboards. Mostly going by looks. Software is the same between all 3, I believe. Looked like the 60 and 70 were same screen size. Haven't looked at the specs closely.

you 10,000 message a month guy you.

I almost got a 6800 but reading that the keyboard did not lay flat, wobbled, I decicded not to and then shortly there after came out the 6620.

I'm still thinking about getting the usb keyboard. Although that makes for a seperate device to carry with you.

LOL. Now I just do about 5000 emails a month plus 1500 texts plus post on here with my phone and I would love the keyboard again. I would do more Agile messenger if I had it. Did you mean the Bluetooth keyboard is the one you are considering getting?

Ok, since I won't be having this phone an extremely long time before I get my new one (the E70), I guess I need to save my pennies and just be happy and content with my silver one.

How hard was it for you to remove the existing faceplate? I had an older Nokia that I did it on, but this one looks tougher and I'm worried about gouging it when trying to pry it apart. I saw that they sold a special antenna opening tool; did you use that?

Also, is the 6681 just the european version of the 6682? Is it exactly the same other than the name?

Thanks!

Removing the faceplate was not hard at all. The hard part was finding a tool to remove the antenna/camera lens cover on the back. I ended up using a safety pin, which I bent into a hook shape, to remove the antenna cover.

Yes, the cover for the 6681 is exactly the same for the 6682.
