Windows Mobile 5.0
Does anyone know if VZ has any plans to update Samsung i730 to Windows Mobile 5.0?
...
i asked about that the day i bought this phone. (the third day it was officially out and on verizon's website). the "data guy" from corporate, that i always have to talk to because no one in the store can answer my questions, told me that samsung is testing it, and consequently intends to release it.
so all in all, from a VZW "data specialist", they are trying to get it to work, and will release it if they do. there is no eta on this.

There are rummers but I have heard from HowardForums on this that a guys Samsung Rep said yes thier will be a upgrade for the phone... And I will look at getting it..

one of the key features of 5.0 is support for non-volatile memory, so that if the battery dies you don't lose your data. with a 5.0 upgrade, will this feature be there, or is there some fundamental hardware issue

The i730 was specifically designed to be upgradable to 5.0. If it is upgraded, it will have persistent storage, which will dramatically increase battery life and it will be impossible to lose your data... It just uses alot of flash rom, which is why the i730 has 128 mb's...

I was told by a Samsung rep. that if you purchased the Windows 5.0 CD (around $40.00) from Dell (currently free w/ the purchase of Axium) that it SHOULD work. I haven't tried it yet, though..

BEWARE!
I have seen and heard that many apps that work with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition will NOT work with Windows Mobile 5.0! If this is true, it will be a nasty little surprise for some of us!
