Well, I've had the chance to play with this for about 24 hours....here's my initial thoughts:

First the good...

*I love the size/form factor. I was expecting a much, much bigger device...but in reality it's only a tiny bit longer than my Kyo 7135 closed up. Very nice!

*The slider mechanism is VERY smooth. Can slide it open and shut with one hand very easily.

*As a PDA (as other have said)...it's excellent.

*Basic phone functions are good. sound quality (in and out) is very good.

*I still need to play with more of the advanced phone functions...and I've yet to start adding contacts, etc yet.
--------------------------------

The Bad...

*As someone else said....the placement of the Voice memo button is STUPID STUPID ...

Well....it appears I had two issues with the wi-fi. One of them I fixed...one of them is still nagging but not NEARLY as bad...and I'm hoping if they give us the WM5 upgrade it will fix the 2nd issue.

First issue...it seems my DLink 714P Router was a big part of the problem. Most of the time it would not allow the i730 to access anything. The phone said it was connected to the network, however NO pages would load. I swapped the router out for a Linksys BEFW11S4 and it works great now. I'm going to drive around today and try a few hotspots and see if all is still well...then I can blame the DLink. Which kinda sux because I had my trusty old HP LaserJet 4 hooked up to the print server on the DLink so anybody on the home network could ...

i agreed with you 100% as I stated a few days back the PDA portion was great!!! I did not like the way the phone part worked, I think Samsung and Verizon spent to much time developing a PDA and forgot about what they know best phones. The layout of the buttons suck!!!!, The way the phone operation worked was horrible, i kept trying to get 3 way calls going (for business) and i kept dropping all the lines, the speaker is pitiful!!!! the sound goes in and out as you described, but having 2 internal speakers you would think the volume would be loud it isnt,the sound is muffled.
I overall was very disappointed with the Samsung I730 and traded it back in, there are better units for the price, and yes maybe the OS upgrade will help with WI-F...

By the 'in and out' comment on the sound quality...I meant in both directions (both the ear volume on this phone and the way it sounds to the recipient) I thought it was good. I should have worded that better. I haven't tried the speakerphone yet.

Re: "As someone else said....the placement of the Voice memo button is STUPID STUPID STUPID", I agree, but I reset the button to VoiceSignal, so now it is a quick, convenient way to do voice dialing.

Start--> Settings --> Buttons -->
Button 1: Assign to a program: VoiceSignal.

So, I hit the button, and for example when it says say a command, I say "call John Doe" slowly and carefully. The program is a little lame but it does work o.k. If there are several phone numbers assigned to John Doe, it will prompt you to choose... like "home" or work" (the line assigned in the contact list).
