Speaking to VW Business reps and speaking to customer service/supervizor on phone, I have two different answers to same question.

If I get the Samsung i730, can I connect the pda device to my laptop and use the 44.95/mo. unlimited plan rather than (wireless card) unlimited access paying 79.99/mo.?

Basically the business rep says that software will not allow this because they VW will see that you are using a cheeper unlimited connection and makes you pay same as if it were a wireless card.

The customer service/supervizor says that it is ok to get a pda device, connect to laptop, use 44.95/mo. and you don't need to pay anything above that and you will definetly get unlimited internet capability.

Can I put an end to this controvers...

I have read that the DUN profile has been disabled. Can we still connect via USB? What is the difference whether I use a mobile office kit to connect with an older phone, or the i730? What is the difference to VZW whether I surf with a PDA or a laptop?

The PDA phones can not be used as a wireless modem with a USB cable, that is how verizon gets away with charging for an aircard instead of people buying PDA phones with data plans.

That is what Verizon would like you to think. I previously had a blackberry 7100t through tmobile and they said the same thing, but I got around it. The same is true for Verizon. There is a workaround. According to this article ( http://davesipaq.com/articles/Verizon_XV6600_ Reviews/3.html ) they got around it on the AudioVox 6600 on the Verizon network. The same will be true with the i730, VZW will say you can't, but you CAN! I guarantee it!

Actaully you can connect, there are sites that show you how you can do it, but what you have to realize is that the 44.95 is for national access only!! If you want broadband even for your PDA phone you have to pay 79.99. There is a difference between national access and Broadband access. I have the vx6600, i had to upgrade my package. Hope this helps.

$79.99 is for the aircards. PDA's are covered with the unlim data package (there's a code that needs to be attached). I just found this out yesterday. Call 866 788 9387... It's VW's wireless data specialist line.

The broadband comes included with all EVDO phones in the 44.99 package. There is no additional charge for it.

As for the main question at hand, I can pretty much verify that the system really has no way to track data transmission if it is used on a laptop or a PDA. If it DOES exsist somewhere in the system, I've never seen it.

hehe, This is exactly why there is controversy. I keep hearing the same hooplah from different parties, 79.99 / 44.99. Thanx for all your guys help. Since this last reply was that all EVDO phones is included with 44.99 package for broadband. How will I go about connecting the laptop to the pda. Is USB Cable sufficient or do I have to use that website in the previous post? I am still curious about this since this will be my first pda phone. Any more info would be much appreciated ;)

I was looking for a way to get Internet access to a desktop and a laptop PC and Mac quite a few months ago.

A guy at VM Data turned me on to using the xv6600 as a high speed modem via blue tooth, not USB.

Another guy at a VM store that had gone through VM's data training told me that we are not supposed to use the pda as a modem using the $44.95 plan. He told me that if they start seeing data usage patterns inconsistent with a pda, eg. higher uploads that you would expect with a pda keyboard, larger downloads than you'd expect to be used on a pda, etc., that they would warn you, charge you the aircard rates or cancel your service. This tells me that the XV6600 can be used with the $44.95 plan, but you have to watch your usage volume....
