EV-DO fast or what?
So here is a good question. Well when this phone comes out my contract will be up and I get to up again (woohoo new every two and woohoo contract signup lower price). But anyway this gives me the option to change to cingular or stay with verizon. What i am wondering is the verizon EV-DO or cingular's pda internet faster? I am in an area that both companies have massive networks (the chicagoland area) so the coverage really isnt an issue for me. I am looking for speed so i wonder which is best.

the reason no one has bothered to answer this question is because it's rather half-thought. EVDO is much faster than what Cingular or anyone else is offering right now.
Cingular = Dial up
EVDO = Broadband
EVDO on the laptop card from Verizon maxes out at about 2mb, but the current PDA maxes out at about 1mb. However, when you compare it to DIAL UP, it's of course still faster.

That's not true at all. Most new Cigular phones support EDGE, which is significantly faster than dail-up. Its slightly faster than Verizon's 1x (i.e. National Access Service). Admittedly, EV_DO is still much faster. EDGE is about 3x faster than dail up, and is about the same speed as most other Verizon phones (the new Treo 650 for example). EDGE will cost you $45/ month, whereas National Access will cost you $50/ month, and EV-DO will cost you $80/ month.

I was told that the verizon 650 only works on the slower 1xRTT network and not EV-DO. Can anyone confirm. As I understand it, this is a big disadvantage to Cingular. Another reason to wait for the 730.

you need to go grab a brochure dude because the EVDO only costs $79.99 WITH THE LAPTOP CARD. If you use it on your PDA it's $44.99 a month.

Actually... in reality the #s are as follows:
Average speeds (not peak)
GPRS: 33kbps
Dialup: 56kpbs
1x: 80kbps
Edge: 110kbps
EVDO: 400-500kbps
Also, pricing for EVDO PDA plan is $45/month.
