Classic Verizon. When I saw this phone my first thought was, "what is Verizon going to do to screw up this phone". Gladly I don't have to wait another year for it to come out to see what the messed up. EV-DO + OBEX - Verizon you were SOOOO close.

Well here's to hoping there will be an full bluetooth SDIO card that will work with the phone

Well, let's just think for a second. If you have an aircard (with EVDO) you pay 80 per month for unlimited access. DUN will allow anyone go online using EVDO for 45 (unlimited plan for PDA). That's the reason why you cannot use the cable to go online with EVDO phones. Don't expect to have a wireless connection for a wireline price.

Exactly my point, why possibly give you something the phone should be capable of doing, when they can rip you off instead.

I mean really, EVDO doesn't really do much for anyone who isn't accessing large amounts of data. I mean sure, I will be able to use the phone to download my football scores to my phone faster I guess. But I'll have to buy a aircard and get a second verizon account @ $80/month to get my laptop online when traveling.

Arguably, DUN is a worse profile to delete than OBEX. Espically when you are marketing a cameraless phone to business people.

I was thinking of upgrading to this from my xv6600 but when I saw that DUN was disabled on the I730 then I thought twice as it is not disabled on my 6600 so I can tether away!! 😁

Please explain DUN and OBEX to me. I assume they relate to using the phone as a modem.

DUN means Dial Up Networking and OBEX means Object Exchange.

There are different profiles for OBEX. I don't know of any phones from Verizon that has all the OBEX profiles enabled. It does not fit with their business model to enable them.

I've have a computer in a business storage area that I can't get a phone or cable service to. I only use it once or twice every month or two, so it's not worth paying the $80 per month for an Aircard. I was told that the vx6600 could be used as a high speed modem using Blue Tooth, as long as I don't use it too much. Do you know if the i730 could also be used as a high speed modem like the vx6600? Is that an OBEX function? Any suggestions on setting the vx6600 and/or the i730 up to do it.
