BACKUP w/ BitPim BEFORE updating w/ Ver.7 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a friendly word of advise. I was in Palo Alto, CA over the weekend and had some time to kill. I decided to take my phone and my wifes phone to get the upgrade. The first attempt my wifes phone was still ver.4, mine was still in process. They said sorry, they used the wrong file and would try again, no biggie. Came back an hour later, picked up both phones, checked to make sure ver.7 was on and all pictures and videos were still there, all good. Said thanks, left....

Later that evening I was using my phone and found I HAD SOMEONE ELSES CONTACTS ON MY PHONE NOW !!!! My wife also had someone elses contacts on her phone (they used two different computers for upgrading). I believe this was just an incident of this store not knowing...

Hmmm, that makes me think...why do they store contacts on their machines? There should be a violation somewhere. Glad that didnt happen to me when I upgraded.

They don't....the software they use does....chances are after your phones didn't work the first time, they flashed another 8100. When that one worked, they didn't close the program and reopen it...they just plugged yours in, and told the program to flash again. When they did this, the program used the file from the phone that worked instead of yours. Bascially it took the information from the phone that worked and put it in yours. Be glad it didn't erase the pictures....if you read around on the forums, most of the time when it software flash fails, pictures, games, ringers, and everything end up gone...or even worse, the phone turns on, shows the verizon welcome screen, and that's about it. At that point they swap the phone out, say "sorry ...
