I found this over on Howard Fourms, but thought some of you might be interested:

How do I get v7?
Go to a full-service Verizon store and have them install it.

What does it do?
It enables the phone to use Verizon's new VCAST Music service, which lets you download music to your phone and play WMA (Windows Media Audio) files you transfer from your computer.

Can I still play MP3s?
YES! But it's disabled by default in v7. You can reenable it in the service menu. Go to Menu, 0, 000000, Music Setting, MP3 Enable. After you enable this, the Get Tunes & Tones menu will have a My MP3s option where you can play them. If you want to use the front button, go to Menu, Settings & Tools, 1 (Tools), 3 (Shortcut Key), 2 (Play Key), My MP3s.

A...

You're a peach Mary. I hope newbies like me haven't annoyed you too much with our lack of forum reading, but that said, I think I'll wait a while to get the bug fixing update untill they get the bugs out of THAT. I'll just have to put up with that camera lag a while longer. Never caught the "volume bug".

Mary,I see in this post that the BT sync doesnt work. Did you buy a cable? Do we still need Bitpim? It was sooooooo easy to sync bitpim with my BT dongle and transfer files.
I followed your lead on this ( BT ) before and am curious on what you are doing now.

BT sync doesn't work for VCAST Music service, but it still works for Bitpim, thank goodness!

After Having my phone flashed on wednesday with version 7 I was headed back home (95 miles to the nearest corp store) and the inner screen cracked insurance sent me replacemnt (brand new still sealed actually) and all it had was version 6 which is ok but after having 7 I knew phone could be louder
So..... I dont think Version 6 was ever recalled
Last Night When I went to have my insurance replacement updated with version 7 the tech asked me why I wanted it done and I explained I still had minor fluctuation on phone and he said ok but i wanted to let you know Version 7 will erase your GIN applications and unless you really need it I would stay with Version 6

As Always Coming From Verizon They tell different people different stories so I ...

I have V07 and my wife has V06. I have compared the cameras and there is still a 1-2 second delay on V07 when set to highest resolution. I see no improvement over the V06 my wife has.

V07 DID help my speaker though! It was unbearable. Now loud and clear! My wife's V06 doesn't have any speaker issue yet and I don't see any reason for her to upgrade to V07 since the camera delay is still there.

Hi, Mary, you seem to have good advice. I just upgraded from VX6100 to VX8100 on 1/18 and got flshed to VO7 on 1/20 before reading your forum post or the info on VZ Music site. My computer only has Win 98SE, so it seems the Music pack that includes software & cable & headsets for VCast music will be useless to me. ALSO, it seems I will not be able to use the VCast software to change my MP3s to WMAs because I don't have Win XP & MPlayer 10. SOOOO...basically the VO7 upgrade was pointless 4 me except for fixes. SO NOW: If I re-enable the MP3 player via the hack you mentioned, will it DIS-able (replace) the VCast player capability (I'd like to keep it, just in case I upgrade my computer in next 2 yrs; or I want to experiment w/VCast in ge...

Let me try to answer all of this. If I miss anything or you need anything clarified further, let me know.
First of all, if you re-enable the MP3 player, you can always go back and disable again to use VCAST Music. It will still be there. To transfer MP3's to your card, you don't even need a cable. You just format the card in the phone, put it in the reader, then your folders will pop up on your PC. You then drag your MP3's (no need to convert to WMA's for MP3 player, keep them as MP3's) from your desktop to the MY_MP3 folder on your card, put your card back in your phone then press and hold the front play button to begin or access the MP3 player through GET TUNES & TONES, MY_MP3's. The only reason you would need a cable and Bitpim ...

🙂 Thank you so much! This answers a lot. Just a couple more: Do you know if I can put BOTH MP3s (for use with the MP3player) AND WMAs on the same card? I know I will have to use different players for these formats (the VCast player only plays WMAs, right?). The point for me would be to be able to buy ONE bigger card (say, a gig), and store it all there, photos, MP3s and WMAs (if I ever decide to fork over the $1.99/song to V).
Also, does Bitpim & the cable transfer photos, too, or only music? (fotos being a whole nother topic as well..I am more into fotos than music, actually). I know the 6100 office kit data cable will do this on the 6100, and people have posted here that both the 6100 and 8000's cables work on the 8100 as well. Can...

Yes, you can put both on card-MP3's in MY_MP3's folder and WMA's in My_Music folder and correct, you have to play them with the correct player. You CAN also transfer pics with Bitpim with the 6100 or 8000 cable. You can also drag and drop from your desktop into the My_Flix folder (this is the way I do it, very easy). Also, if you don't want to use a data cable you can use a Bluetooth USB adapter. I prefer that method, but cable is good too. Whatever you prefer.

That's a really thorough answer! Just one question: I'm looking on the RadioShack website, and they only have the 6000 cable. Does this cable also work for 6100/8000/8100?

Thanks!

Even though I don't care at all about the Music functions of the phones, I'm always surprised that Mary gives clear and concise answers to problems, while most (not all) of the VZ reps, seem to confuse instead of try and help. Thanks Mary. Hope you keep it up.

Your welcome. I research this stuff into the ground. I am married to an engineer, am a stay-at-home Mom to two small boys and take care of my 96 year old Grandmother, so this is my escape from it all! I find it so funny when I go into a store or call CS to ask about something or order something I have to tell THEM what to do and usually end up teaching them something. I wish I got paid for it! I appreciate your post. It's nice to feel valued.

This is out of the subject a bit but I have to throw this into the ring. I was a stay at home Dad for a year just like you Mary. Boy! Did I get crucified by people for saying that I was a stay at home Dad. I guess society isn't ready for the role reversal. Anyways, good for you Mary.
