don't listen to the reps - you don't need to "condition" this battery. if someone is telling you that, they've probably been in the business since 1989 and think every battery is ni-cad

The first few times you charge your battery you should make sure you leave it in over night... after that the battery will automatically shut off when its fully charged... MOST batteries have a chip in them that shut the AC off from the battery automatically... VZW Rep here by the way... love the 8100... hate the fact that they 8100 wont let me use the old ways for loading in my ringtones and wallpapers... *sigh*

When you first get the phone at the store, it has about 2 bars of battery. In the manual it says to FULLY charge the phone before using it. Well, what if you don't do that? Does it affect the battery performance?

🤣 (I couldn't help it, I wanted to play with the phone) 🤣

To me, it would make sense to use the phone until it tells you that the battery is low. 🤣

Yeah, I mean, do they really expect a person to get a brand new phone and then turn it off and charge it without at least checking out a FEW things? Puh-lease. 🤣

Maybe some people can actually follow directions and I was just impatient!!

Anyone with a scientific mind, please... what would be the reason to charge the battery first if it has already been partially charged at the factory? 😕

How to prolong lithium-based batteries

Battery research is focusing heavily on lithium chemistries, so much so that one could presume that all portable devices will be powered with lithium-ion batteries in the future. In many ways, lithium-ion is superior to nickel and lead-based chemistries and the applications for lithium-ion batteries are growing as a result.

Lithium-ion has not yet fully matured and is being improved continuously. New metal and chemical combinations are being tried every six months to i...

Wow! Thanks for all that info! So, if I got the phone, played with it for a few minutes right out the box - with 2 bars of battery (but did not let it fully discharge) and then put it on the charger when I got to an electrical outlet, then my battery should be okay? I have, however, let it fully discharge about two or three times before re-charging it (I didn't know...). I guess I won't be doing that again!

Do you think I have messed up the battery now?

Thanks from the paranoid piggys! 🤣

If I recall correctly the article stated that there is no memory on these batteries per se but rather a number of times the battery could be charged. The discharge / charge issue seemed to have more to do with the meter of the battery. That refers to the indicator telling you how much of a charge is left on the battery. The article stated that periodically you should drain it down all the way to fully reset the meter.

It also indicated that temperature can affect the battery.

I would not worry about your battery at this time. Just enjoy the phone. I have had mine operational for two days and we are still getting to know each other.

🤣 Thanks! 🤣

Yeah, that article was very helpful. I'm at work and had to scan it quickly so I didn't quite soak in all the info.

Thanks again for that article!!
