BT Headset Update - Scala 500

InsuranceMan

Jul 25, 2005, 10:03 PM
I received the Cardo Scala 500 today. So far, I'm not as impressed as others have been. My wife had a long drive home this evening, so during our call, I switched between three headsets to see which sounded best for me, and for her.

She rated the Moto HS850 as the one I sounded best to her on. She said both the Jabra 250v and the Cardo Scala were not clear. She said the Jabra had more static, and was the least clear of the three, but both the Jabra and the Scala made my voice sounded muffled, and as though I had a bit of a lisp.

Also, I had conversations with other people while using the Scala, one from the car and one from home. During the conversation while in the car, the recipient commented about how loud my air conditioner wa...

Great, I just ordered the scala on Ebay. Should I not open it and just resell it and get the Hs850?

Like I said, I just got the Scala yesterday, but after about 45 minutes of talking on it, in different conditions, I'm not convinced it's as good as others have posted.

Another person on here posted about the Logitech Freedom being pretty good, but that's the only post I have seen about that headset.

Others have chosen the Jabra over the 850, and I liked the Jabra when I first got it, but after longer use I think the 850 is better. It's the more expensive of the four I've tried, but I spend a lot of time on the phone, so think I'm going to keep the 850.

Thanks for your post and about the comparasion between the Jabra and the 850. I had a friend tell me the other day that my Jabra sounded "muffled" and I noticed a lot of static in the connection.

After reading your review, I'm going to try out the Motorola and see if that helps.

Thanks!

If it matters... this was my first excursion into the BT headset world and I was *completely* disappointed with ALL the ones that Verizon sold at the store... but love that 15-day trial period 🙂

Moto820 - Sounded good on my end, decent range, but EVERYONE I talked to complained of hearing their own voice echo back annoyingly. Decent volume. (Returned)

Moto850 - Same as 820 but added feature of the collapsable boom. Nice feature but no one wanted to talk after hearing the annoying echo. Volume was also a little low for car usage I thought. (Returned)

Jabra 250v - Best volume and no echo but got lots of static about 5 feet from the phone and then it didn't go away after going back near the phone (heard on both ends). I then tri...

Hey LG-CJ, just saw your posts on the bluetooth sets and your vx8100 phone. I just got one and am trying to figure out what works good with it. I tried the Motorola 850, 820, and Jabra bt800, all don't work that well. I had the same problems that you stated. I just got the BT250V but it seems like that doesn't work well either. Please let me know what worked good for you. Thanks!

The Jabra BT250V has been the best of all I tried. However, most of the headsets I tried with my first phone. I have since swapped out the phone, and had the v04 software update. A buddy has borrowed my Scala to try. I should be getting it back today, so I'm anxious to see how it works post-upgrade. I kind of think the Jabra 250 is probably going to still be better.

A few on year have talked about a newer Moto, I think HS500 or something like that. It seems to get good reviews.

Have you had the software upgrade?

Thanks for the reply. I just got the phone last Friday and I found out from verizon it has all the latest firmware upgrades. I can tell it does cause I can access that cool MP3 player on it.
Please let me know how the Cardo Scalar 500 works. A guy here at work has it and says it is great. I was tempted to ask if I could use it on mine, but I guess that is kinda personal! haha

Haven't heard of the Moto 500. WIll look into it.
Have you heard of the Jabra JBT350V? It is only on Verizon's website or in their stores. Supposedly a guy in the store says it works the best with his VX8100. Im gonna go back there today to get more details about it.

Hey man, just a quick update, I tried the BT250v just now, worked horrible for me. Randomly the signal would go bad even though I am 1 foot away from the phone.
I was at the Verizon store, the employee said that his VX8100 works great with the Jabra JBT350V. I just ordered mine, it will come in Monday so I will let you know how it works. There is a 14-day return policy so I figured why not!
Also while I was there, I saw a Verizon manager using a Logitech Mobile Freedom Headset with his VX8100. He said this worked way better than anything that Verizon sells, but he's not suppose to advertise that because Verizon is going to come out with headsets made for their LG phones. Plus Verizon doesn't sell Logitech bluetooth headsets, so I guess he ...

Jabra bt350? sweet.
http://www.jabra.com/JabraCMS/NA/EN/MainMenu/Product ... »

I had the bt800 which worked pretty good with my v710, but not with the 8100. Noone's mentioning the bt800, which is good, but I'll reiterate, don't get that one for the 8100.

I talked to someone at Jabra a couple months ago and they basically told me that every headset had an issue with Verizon bt phones, except the 250v. This was before the 350 I believe.

The Logitech Freedom has been my choice for a while, alot of people break the boom however (which could be easily avoided I suppose).

I loved my bt800, and the 350 is just like it. Good sound quality too on the bt800.

So it's the bt350 or the Logitech Freedo...

Hey MashedBuddha, I just got my BT350V and I still think it doesn't work as well as it should. I am using it with my VX8100 phone. People can hear me well and I can hear other people crystal clear. The problem is, as with most other bluetooth headsets with this phone, is that the person on the other end can hear an echo of themselves when they talk. Did anyone notice that when you talk to them using the BT350?
Yeah the BT800 & BT250V didn't work good on my vx8100, but the BT350V worked a lot better.
Do you think the Logitech Freedom works better than the BT350V on your VX8100 phone?

Jabra 250 & 250v was the clearest and loudest and found it comfortable to wear. Instant connect. But after several days, voice recogination became awful. Kept giving me time and date and everything but what I wanted. Went thru 2 of each and had my phone checked. According the techs, phone checked out fine. Gave up and went back to the Moto 850. Always feels like its falling out of your ear. Voice recognition: excellent.

I bought the Scala last week and am very pleased with it. I bought the Jabra 250v and the Moto hs820 and 850 as well. The Scala has proven(to me at least) to be the best on by far.

All of the others had static and didn't right on the ear. I had to pick them up off of the passenger seat whenever I turned my head. The scala has a bendable earpiece which conforms to my ear. The sound is also much better than the others I've tried. When I'm in the car, people can hear ambient noise, but that's the way the headsets are. But with the scala, the callers on the other end said that it wasn't as bad as the other ones.

Overall, I am very pleased with my scala. I've also heard great things about the Tekkeon. Whichever bt headset you p...

Do you have to re-connect manually or does it do it automatically? If auto, are you using an extended battery on phone? Thanx.

I actually found the Scala to be BY FAR the most comfortable --HOWEVER, as far as sound, so far it's the Jabra --mainly because it goes in the ear, whereas the Scala sort of just firmly lays on it.

But, I too have been experiencing static and "muffled-ness" on the Jabra.

So, I'm certainly open to suggestion...

I find the Scala just as clear and loud as the Jabra. Do you have to re-connect manually or automatically. Using an extended battery on phone?

All I want to know is if you can switch to an incoming call (call waiting) with the Scala without touching your phone. Thanks

No, but you can't go by me. My CW never worked with any of the headsets I tried. Only with the phone. It seems everybody else got their's working but me. My headset won't re-connect automatically either. If there weren't so many phone problems, I'd swap it, but don't know what I'll get in return.

I received my Flamingo today and charged it enough to make one test call. I used voice activation to make the call and it worked great. My friend on the other end said I sounded great, much better than the speakerphone. It was also very loud. I actually turned the volume up until it was too loud and had to back off. It was clear as a bell for the duration of the call. It's also comfortable, very lightweight, and I shook my head back and forth fast trying to makeit fly out of my ear but couldn't. This is my first BT headset so I can't compare to others but I have to agree with the review I read before ordering...it's great! Not too many places have them yet so I ordered from blueheadsets.com. I ordered on friday afternoon and got it t...

I'm intrigued with the Flamingo. So you really like it?
I'm really torn on spending the $ for a BT headset. I know people have liked the HS 850 but I have a problem with my chubby cheeks interfering with the mic on it, and I'm not overall impressed with the HS 810. I work for RadioShack and I admit I've been selling a lot of the HS 805 (the one with the AAA battery in it, and for the simple fact that it doesn't require a charger is actually pretty attractive to customers.

So I gather no troubles pairing with the phone? I'm very curious and may splurge...

Thanks for the info... 😉
