LG VX-8100
LGE vs VZW
lg usa created the vx8100 for the ultimate in convenience and enjoyment for end users, including a built-in mp3 player that could be easily controlled using the multimedia buttons on the outside of the phone.
verizon wireless immediately realized that this was a "potential problem" because of the fact that if people could rip and copy their own mp3 files, this would mean verizon would not be able to charge people for downloading mp3's through their own "get it now" applications. due to a serious lack of...

What I do is to try to get the most out of the phone without paying for any extras. In other words, the best way to get back at VZW is to simply spend less!! 😁
So, you may have to hack your phone or do without some features, but we're all adults here (???); we can live without every little toy VZW dangles in front of us, can't we?
If not, you may have to look for another provider. But in my opinion "RELIABLE" Verizon effectively has a monopoly... their cellular coverage is the best!! That's what people pay for, not the extras!!
You either get good cell coverag...

my problem is that playing mp3's is a pain in the ass now since they disabled the multimedia keys.
i remember my friend telling me his sprint phone had free ring tones once. mine were $.99c at the time. the other day i checked and it was like $5.99 for the get it now app and $2 or some crap for ring tones. i about died.
verizon's phone service is decent, but that's no reason to screw people over.
i wonder if other providers are offering the lg vx8100. surely they have left the mp3 player fully in tact.

Nope, no one else is-- but Sprint will be offering the Samsung SCH-A970 under another model number. It will be interesting to see how much of a difference there is between the Verizon's "going to be crippled" A970 and Sprints version.

Go to the other wireless company that can manage to make money every year. Wait, there isn't one. Clearly Verizon's business plan is better than the one you could offer them.
Take your advice and start your own company and see how many people sign up and how much money you make.

i guess you are the only person on the internet that thinks verizon isn't already making enough extra money through "get it now" or "pay as you play". i don't care if they charge people to download mp3's - for people that are actually stupid enough to download them. that doesn't mean they should disable a feature that was built in to the phone. lg usa originally intended for us to be able to make our own mp3's, copy them to the minisd card, and listen to them whenever we want - using the external multimedia buttons. verizon zapped that ability though, to your approval it seems. maybe you should get a job with them.
i guess th...

The important part being..
The VX8100 does not have an MP3 player, but the phone is capable of playing MP3 tones through the MOD (Music On Demand) service that is offered and supported by Verizon.
Is that too difficult to understand?
a: "the feature has been disabled by verizon wireless and there is no date or committed time frame to resume the disabled features."

I'm a complainer with nothing better to do
I fully understand you are making up quotes to suit your own needs. Your lack of debating skills bores me, I'm done with this.
I agree w/ sgt-d that mp3s will probably never be enabled on this phone. The e815 appears to be mp3 enbabled, so its not as if vzw is keeping that feature off their network.
Maybe moto has a deal w/vzw to not let other equipment get so enabled...
The E815 doesn't even have the buttons so it's a non-issue. Sure you can probably put some songs on there but how convenient is it to have to leave the phone open to listen to a song? Not really.
There's a ton of ports on the front of my HD cable box/recorder that don't do anything. I don't cry to Comcast about it though. It has 2 usb, a firewire, and a set of rca inputs that don't have any purpose at all. I asked the cable guy if they did when it was installed, he said "not at this time", and I've never thought...

that quote was in an email from verizon to me.

Yes... The MP3 player will be active soon..1.99 to listen to a song.. $5.99 for unlimited access to a song...Or, you can download your own songs from your computer via vzwmp3 for $1.99 a month/each or $4.99 unlimited access to your own song... So, if you want 100 songs on the phone, you will only pay $499.00... And, don't loose or break the phone... You will have to pay again..
