LGE vs VZW
this is my first post and i've spent hours reading threads here. some of this infomation has been covered previously, some has not. please refrain from flaming me based on one comment that you may have already read 1.2 billion times.
lg usa created the vx8100 for the ultimate in convenience and enjoyment for end users, including a built-in mp3 player that could be easily controlled using the multimedia buttons on the outside of the phone.

A few thousand complaint letters from disgruntled customers will have no effect on the mammoth VZW which claims to have over 43 million wireless customers!! 🙄
What I do is to try to get the most out of the phone without paying for any extras. In other words, the best way to get back at VZW is to simply spend less!! 😁
So, you may have to hack your phone or do without some features, but we're all adults here (???); we can live without every little toy VZW dangles in front of us, can't we?
If not, you may have to look for another provider. But in my opinion "RELIABLE" Verizon effectively has a monopoly... their cellular coverage is the best!! That's what people pay for, not the extras!!

i agree totally. i use their "free for one month" offers and then cancel them. i never buy their ****.
my problem is that playing mp3's is a pain in the ass now since they disabled the multimedia keys.
i remember my friend telling me his sprint phone had free ring tones once. mine were $.99c at the time. the other day i checked and it was like $5.99 for the get it now app and $2 or some crap for ring tones. i about died.

i wonder if other providers are offering the lg vx8100. surely they have left the mp3 player fully in tact.

Nope, no one else is-- but Sprint will be offering the Samsung SCH-A970 under another model number. It will be interesting to see how much of a difference there is between the Verizon's "going to be crippled" A970 and Sprints version.

i guess you are the only person on the internet that thinks verizon isn't already making enough extra money through "get it now" or "pay as you play". i don't care if they charge people to download mp3's - for people that are actually stupid enough to download them. that doesn't mean they should disable a feature that was built in to the phone. lg usa originally intended for us to be able to make our own mp3's, copy them to the minisd card, and listen to them whenever we want - using the external multimedia buttons. verizon zapped that ability though, to your approval it seems. maybe you should get a job with them.

The feature isn't disabled. The mp3 player is for Music On Demand, that isn't out yet, per an email someone claims to have received from LG in this

The VX8100 does not have an MP3 player, but the phone is capable of playing MP3 tones through the MOD (Music On Demand) service that is offered and supported by Verizon.

I have a v60i that I'd like to upgrade w/ my NE2, so I've been following the 8100 debate on this forum for the past couple of weeks. As such, I claim no special insider knowledge, just rational speculation.
I agree w/ sgt-d that mp3s will probably never be enabled on this phone. The e815 appears to be mp3 enbabled, so its not as if vzw is keeping that feature off their network.
Maybe moto has a deal w/vzw to not let other equipment get so enabled...

The issue here seems to revolve around there being buttons on the LG that don't do anything at this time. They are for the planned Music On Demand service. I have no info on how it will be priced or really what all it will do.
The E815 doesn't even have the buttons so it's a non-issue. Sure you can probably put some songs on there but how convenient is it to have to leave the phone open to listen to a song? Not really.
There's a ton of ports on the front of my HD cable box/recorder that don't do anything. I don't cry to Comcast about it though. It has 2 usb, a firewire, and a set of rca inputs that don't have any purpose at all. I asked the cable guy if they did when it was installed, he said "not at this time", and I've never thought...
