Which bluetooth headset is best?

I purchased the Plantronics M2500 yesterday and it seems to work pretty well--no statis within the 30 ft range. I was thrilled that I could make calls with the voice activation and not having to open the phone (I was worried since you can't make regular calls that way). But I was wondering which other headsets are good. The Plantronics seems pretty comfortable but I think it looks kind of big on the ear. I think the Jabra also look big but I've heard great things about them. And as far as the Motos, what's the difference in the models, HS810, 820 & 850? Any of those better than the other? Any advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks! 🙂

Personally, I don't know anything about the headsets. But, just so you all know, on LG's website, they have a bluetooth visor clip for this phone. Cool! It's about $50. I called and they said they are taking pre-orders (it shows as not in stock on the website). Seems pretty neat!

I have used the Moto HS810 and HS820, as well as the very first Jabra that came out. So far I prefer the HS820. It is s little bigger than the 810, but it is much easier and quicker to connect/disconnet. Unless you want to wear your earpiece ALL the time like a REAL geek 😳 , this is a very important feature. Also means your battery will last a LOT longer. Sound is good on both, range seems to be about equal. I also think the 810 fits better, but that's just my ear, I am sure.

Phonephetish,

This is my first BT phone and headset. I bought the Moto HS820 at the recommendation of the VZW rep. She mentioned it was easier to navigate than the 850. Why? I'm not sure. I am thinking seriously of returning the 820 to try the 850 and the Jabra. I have a very low opionion of Jabra wired headsets, but everyone on here seems to think highly of their BT sets. The Jabra will also vibrate, so you feel it from the headset if you don't feel/hear the phone ring.

Difference between 850 and 820 - 850 has a folding boom-type mic that activates the system for making/ending calls. Also rated for longer batt life than 820. Other than those things I have read about, I cannot comment.

As for the Plantronics, I read a revie...

Just got the Cardo Scala 500 today. It is clear, small, fits nicely, and is easy to use. Good user reviews from cnet.com and epinions.com.

Insuranceman,

I actually think the Plantronics is pretty comfortable, but I think it just looks a little bulky. I have also heard good things about the Jabras but they also have the same bulky look to them. I like the Moto headsets because they seem to be the smallest and most lightweight and look pretty cool. I like the fast that you can fold away the mic on the HS850. I'm trying to find a good deal on ebay, but everyone seems to rip you off with shipping. If I do get it, I will post an update.

the Plantronics 2500 is the best SOUND quality one......Works perfect....has a few ear peices. NO STATIC. I tried both Motorola BT offered by Verizon returned both....Very staticy!!!! The Jabra was the best feeling one with the most options...but again EXTREMLLY staticy.......The Plantronics is the best quality one, sound is perfect blows others away and its the cheapest out of them all....Go with the plantronics.... I know nothing about the Cardo Scala 500..could be just as good.......it is cool looking though

Thanks for the input PhoneDingo. I checked out the review for both the HS850 and the Cardo Scala and seems the user reviews are better on the Cardo. I may pick up one of those and see how I like it.

Have had the Scala for 24 hours now and made several phone calls. Reception and clarity have been excellent on both ends. Range has been fine - 20 to 25 ft before I encountered some static. The fit is great...you have to bend the earpiece and let it snap back to get a contoured fit. They explain it better on their website, cardowireless.com.

Overall, very pleased. Like it better than the others I've tried: jabra bt250 (too bulky to carry around in pocket, but good sound) and the motorolas (to flimsy on the ear).

Good luck 😉

Thanks Izzybeez. I have since purchased the Moto HS850 and have mixed feelings. I think it looks really cool and I like the functionality fo the buttons, but it does feel a bit flimsy on the ear and is hard to get a good fit. I ordered the Scala 500 and should get it in a few days. I will try that one out and make a true comparison between the Plantronics, Moto and Scala. Seems the Moto and Scala have pretty close talk time and battery life, but from what I've read it seems the Scala is supposed to sound clearer, especially in windy conditions. Have you tested it under those conditions?

So I received my Scala 500 on Monday and have been interchanging between the 1)Plantronics M2500 2)Moto HS850 and 3)Scala 500. Sorry for the delay but I wanted to test the 3 of them thoroughly. Here are my thoughts:

1) Plantronics 2500: Best clarity by far. I have used it several times and have heard no complaints on the other end and my end is loud and clear. Of course, the earpiece goes into the ear a bit so that is probably why, and the extended boom mic also helps. But this is definitely the bulkiest of the 3 and least attractive. The controls are also a bit cumbersome, so I have to say it's going back to the store.

2) Moto HS850: Absolutely least comfortable of the 3 I tried. After using it at least a dozen times, in the c...

I had a question on the Cardo Scala. After reading your review, I went to ebay to check this one out. I had the Motorola HS820 and HS850 and also didn't like the way it fit on the ear, felt like it was going to fly off with even a slight turn of the head. I now have the Jabra BT250V and am very happy with it, but am now curious about the Cardo Scala since you give it such a good review. Now for my question, it looks to me that it has the same earloop design as the Motorola does, but you say it fits better? Is it a tighter loop? Just curious, as I am thinking about possibly trying it out.

How you doing with Scala? How is voice recognition? Hope I have better luck. After a day or two, voice recognition seems to deteriate with Jabra and Plantonics. Didn't give the Logitech Mobile Freedem a chance. Uncomfortable to wear and put on. Spring ear-piece that presses against ear. Jabra was best, but after 3 days couldn't find anything. Started to get the same thing with the Plantronics M2500 after a day-and-a-half. Also hard to turn on, static and very loud on receiving end and kept having to reconnect.

I returned my 850 today and am keeping the Scala. The voice recognition is really good. The "please say a command" does not get cut off and there is no delay. The distance is not great, can only get about 20 ft before I get static but I plan to keep the phone on me or be in the car when I use the headset anyways. Combined with the comfort and the compactness of it, and the extra accesories you get with it, I think I am happy with my choice.

I too, tried several including the Motorola HS820 and HS850 and now have the Jabra BT250V and I love it! Best one out of the bunch. I have not tried the Cardo Scala 500, but am going to check into it after reading that last review. Thanks all!

Mary,

If I compare the HS850 and the Cardo Scala 500 side by side, the ear loop is similar in size. The scala is slightly larger, but mainly it's wider in the upper curve that goes over the top of the ear. The Moto has a sharper curve up at the top, and the bottom half of the loop is too soft, like jelly. I think those 2 reasons are why the Moto doesn't fit very well. I noticed that after I wore the Moto for a while, the top of my ear would be sore, and the bottom of the loop was the part that would always want to fall out behind my earlobe. The Scala fits my ear much more naturally and I don't have to adjust it. I'm sure everyone's ears are different, but the Scala just worked better for me.
