Anybody have what look like DEAD PIXELS when trying to take a pic on E815

I posted on HOFO but got 1 response. I just got the E815 yesterday and everything is fine until I noticed when taking pics at home that there were a few dead white pixels when the camear function was on. the pictures look fine but that is odd. Also if I zoom in I see a reddish purple spot in the top right. Just thought if anybody else had that.

My first E815 had dead pixels in the camera too. Nothing that affected phone performance, but annoying just the same. I took the phone back to Circuit City, and had them take their other E815's (four of them) out of the box so I could check for dead pixels. I think the representative at the store thought i was crazy, but I was adamant about checking first before exchanging. Good thing I did: out of the four remaining E815's they had, only one had no dead pixels, so that's the one I exchanged it for.

Incidentally, I've only used the phone very lightly so far (made a few test calls yesterday, customized menus, checked out the V-Cast feature etc...) as I've been doing the initial "overnight charge". So far though, I love it. I'm one o...

Wow thanks for the input. I guess its a common issue but people are just paying attention. Its like my PSP I didn't see any dead pixels until a few days after. I don't see them all the time and forgot about them. I guess its the visual that bothers me. I can just imagine going to the VZW store and asking them to open several units. I will see if it gets worse then I will go and exchange it if not then I will keep it. I love the phone and I also came for LG world (VX6000). The one thing that surprised me with the E815 is there is no more training of the voice and numbers for the voice dialing.

Yeah, I felt kind of weird asking them to open different units until I found one without dead pixels, but at the same time, I'm the one paying for the phone so they should at least make sure I/you get one that's defect free. Customer service with Verizon is really hit or miss, so I guess I was lucky that the guy allowed me to do this (even though I could tell he was annoyed). The bottom line though is that I want a phone that's defect free out of the box. Verizon agents should understand this, and hopefully accommodate their customers with this issue.

I switched to this phone from the LG 6100 (which I've now given to my wife). The main thing that I've found so far that really makes this a great choice is the Bluetooth feature. I t...

I completely agree. I've been fortunate to deal with the manager of a local VZW store who's very accomodating. When I buy a new phone, he'll let me examine 4 boxes at a time 'til I find a new phone that's relatively defect free. This manager is married to a woman who shares my high-quality standards, so he comes into the equation with a level of understanding. Still, I expect that most managers will be more accomodating than their underlings, so if you're of the high-quality persuasion, I'd recommend asking for t...

I have the same bug with a blue dead pixel while taking a picture, it does not come out with the picture though. Another bug with the phone is that if I have the scarlet skin on the wallpaper disappears once in a while.

I guess mine is one of those that doesn't exhibit that behavior. I am also coming from LG series that i couldn't wait to get out from under. I'm sorry LG users but IMO they suck. Dropped calls, heating up too often, once shocked my ear while in use. It was like being held for ransom with LG's with me.

By contrast, my brand new E815 right-out-of-box sings a perfectly different tune and everything is more than satisfactory, it is EXCELLENT! in every respect. I nearly went the v710 route untill VZW finally turned this one loose around Independence day.

One of many things that strikes me is the improved battery life compared to the v710, very much welcome.
Holding the E815 (clamshell closed/open) at arms length the other party will tell y...

My brand new E815 also has dead pixels. 3 to be exact (a red, blue and green one). They are pretty scattered on the screen. However, they are seen only when taking a picture and nowhere else. The saved pictures NEVER have dead pixels nor do the menus. After setting up the phone and customizing everything, it's not worth replacing the phone for a few dead pixels which are there only a fraction of the time.

I'm strongly considering both the e815 and the vx 8100. Seems like a few people are having trouble with dead pixels and was wondering if this is the norm for most everyone...

I'm not sure I want to buy the phone if I'm going to more than likely get one with dead pixels. I'd end up doing the same thing - making them take them all out the box. My local Verizon store seems to have employees with attitudes and I really don't want to have to deal with them!!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

My phone don't have any dead pixels and it seems only when they put it in camera mode they see a couple but they never show up in the picture so its up to you.

Honestly, the dead pixel issue in the camera isn't the end of the world, as the phone works fine otherwise. I just felt that I wanted one that didn't have this issue, and much to the chagrin of the Verizon reps, made them open the other E815 phones until I found one that didn't have this problem. They didn't like doing this, but begrudgingly accommodated me.

So far, the only "bug" I've found in the phone has to do with the "Contacts" phone book (I believe someone else mentioned this on this forum as well). If you change a person's speed dial location in your contact history, the contact will either:

A) Disappear
B) Make the contact it is replacing in the speed dial hierarchy disappear.

Be careful when doing this. I had to r...

Do you think the LG VX 8100 would be a better phone to get (of the price isn't an issue)?

Thanks for all the input! 😁

Super,

Can you explain how to make a contact disappear? With my E815 if I try to overwrite a speed dial # already in use, my phone warns me with a prompt that says "Replace John Doe?" and I have to press yes if I really want to wipe out that contact.

And if I pick a new speed dial # that's not used, everything's cool.

Maybe I'm not understanding your problem, but I don't want to start wiping out any of my contacts by accident either. 😲 Please explain how you make this happen in more detail.

Thanks!
