If you want a Verizon E815, get it soon

The E815 is now at an all time low price, and rumors are flying around that it may be discontinued shortly. The most likely replacement mentioned is an unkown phone referred to as the E817. The device is rumored to have Verizon's standard red interface as well as a mini-usb charging port. I've not seen confirmation, but if this is true, much of the excitement of the E815 could be taken away in the new model.
For those who have not noticed, ALL of Verizon's non-PDA phones have been given this new standardized interface marked by red bars along the top and bottom of the screen, and oversimplistic text menus. The options to change skins, color themes, and even the shortcut keys has been taken away on the new interface. Some may favor this new ...

Unfortunately it looks like this rumor may be true after all. On Verizon's Website, it states that the E815 is now $49.99, though the full retail is still $289.

We may be seeing the E817 sooner than we think. Skyrocketing prices on Ebay may be coming as theses phones become hard to find in the coming months. Plus that dreaded Verizon UI may make more people jump ship to other carriers as there will be no phones left with the manufacturer interface.

Lol you guys and your fear of the VZW UI. The way you react you'd think they were forcing you to watch the execution of your loved ones...

Jump ship fron VZ cuz of the interface? Lol

Thats petty, the VZW UI is becoming a universal thing on VZW phones, get used to it. If you want to go to Cingular be my guest, have fun with the more bars in more places. 🙄

By the way, I'm sure you've read that ATT is buying BellSouth that it will be changing to ATT Wireless. Go give them your business. Just spare me the VZW UI drama, please.

The Verizon UI isn't half bad, you're right but that isn't the point. The point is that people want options. It is completely and utterly ridiculous that Verizon wants to put one stupid UI on every single phone.

If a Motorola and an LG have exactly the same features and are exactly the same price, people will then buy the phone which looks more attractive externally... and thats fine cause that is a factor. But it's kind of a blow to the manufacturers because the UI is a factor ...

"It is completely and utterly ridiculous that Verizon wants to put one stupid UI on every single phone."

No, it's utterly rediculous that every time someone gets a new phone, they have to learn a different ui even though their new phone does the exact same thing as their old phone. How many time do different manufacturers have to reinvent the wheel here? There's a contact book, and it holds contacts. We don't need 5 different ways to do contacts.

If people don't like the red bars on the interface, then they don't like it. If people don't like the limited customability of the interface (I'm not fond of it), then they don't like it. But I don't give a rats *** about whether the manufacturer can "differentiate" themselves with their new, ...

So, using that brilliant theory, why dont we make all cars exactly the same inside and the same performance? Thanks for the laugh! My GUESS is that they are doing it so they do not have to service several different UI's. Less confusion for the CS reps.

Yes, because designing a physical vehicle has anything to do with the ui on your cell phone.

It's because normal people, unlike yourself, have a life and actually have better things to do than spending 10 hours a week playing with the ui on their cell phone!

(Where's that flamethrower smiley? We really need one for this "conversation")

There's no reason I, or anyone else, has to relearn an entirely new interface every time we get a new cell phone.

LOL what a fool. And speaking of relearning UIs, every computer should run Windows 3.1 because it's simple. Every TV should use the same remote. Every lamp needs the same watt bulb! And every beer needs a twist off lid (why should I have to learn how to use a bottleopener anyway!?)

Wow - I couldn't have thought up a better reason for why you're wrong than you did! Windows vs. Linux is perfect - why is it that everyone uses Windows and not Linux? Oh I'm sure you'll say you run Linux and it's because you're smart and they're stupid, right?

OR it could be that normal people like using the same interface. They don't like learning a new interface. And programmers are the same way - they often only make software for windows because they don't want to have to rewrite their code for mac and linux. People use windows rather than linux, despite linux being free, more secure, and more reliable exactly because they don't want to have to learn a new interface.

Every TV should use the same damn remote. How many d...

OMG I agree /w Paul!?! 😲

I love how everyone is so selfish and think only of themselves!

You people really have such few worries in your life that your cellphone UI is this big of a concern?

If you want to complain about something try pollution, deforestation, education, taxes, anything as long as its actually important to how people live.

If you still live in the "im the only one that matters" box go get a job as a wireless agent for ANY carrier. Sell some phones. See how it is. Upgrades on people 40+ might get you phrases like "does this one operate similar to my old one? it took me xxx timespan to learn how to use it"

Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
