New Firmware is Out!

adidosc

Just wanted to let you guys and gals know the new firmware is out. You can take it by any Verizon store that works on phones and get it uploaded to your phone. The new software version number is 8720_01.1E.00 which seems to fix the issues with the phone out so far (like the alarm clock which will occationally not go off even if it is set). Enjoy!

but it does resolve the text notification overriding the alarm notification. The store tecnicians have a bulletin on the fixes. Ask a manager if the tech gives you a hard time.

Well I just got my e815 and compared to the v710 the vibrate is a whole new world. I can't tell you how many times I had the 710 in my pocket and missed calls on vibrate.

I can feel every single call comeing in on my 815! I have the new firmware as well.

I got the upgrade and now dialup networkng no longer works. I get an ivalid username or password error. The code to turn DUN on and off for the phone no longer works either. Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it? Thanks.

I'd be interested in knowing what exactly the new firmware does as well. I have done a lot of seem edits and flexing to my phone, and I have heard that flashing the new firmware might undo all that. If it is not worth the new firmware, I am not going to bother. The phone is working great for me. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

😡 yeah, about that little alarm bug...
i took my phone to the verizon store today only for the customer service chick and the tech dude they had there tell me that:
a) the alarm is a known issue (duh, thanks for telling me....)
b) i currently have the latest software
c) there is no known fix for that alarm bug as yet
and, my favorite...
d) to keep checking back every week because 'we get new updates all the time'

UMMM....

something about how they acted definitely came across as "oh well, looks like you're S.O.L.!"

i just switched from sprint and im already regretting it. i told them about phonescoop and what i read, and all they could offer was that maybe another store in the city has the update? but um, no one offered to ca...

I got the new firmware and after the tech did it, my browser did not work. they could not reinstall the browser, so they gave me a "new" phone(refirbished). The tech said the phone i was given had the new firmware but i dont believe it does because the alarm clock does not work if you get a text. the version my phone has is 8720_01.17.03.

i know. when they installed the new firmware, they screw up my phone so i cant use the web browser. when they screwed up my last phone, they gave me this one without the upgrade. is the upgrade worth it, or doesnt it fix much?

Personally, I would not upgrade. Verizon has a habit of creating new problems with their "upgraded software" e.g. the V710 upgrade was donr to prevent transfer from flash card etc. Just my humble opinion. By the way, I think this phone is awesome!! 😁

I have had the E815 since the day it was released, where I waited until Circuit City opened it's door, along with 10 others purchasing this phone. I am an adult buisnessman. If you are looking for a "toy", this is not the phone for you. If you are looking for a phone that works this is it. This is without a doubt the best phone I have ever used. I have been w/Verizon since they were Bell Atlantic Mobile. This phone works flawlessly. The phone never locked up and always get a good signal. The other day I reflashed the firmware and the vibrate is actually better. After the reflash the phone still works perfect. I highly recommend.

Tourman,

You mentioned that your reflashed the firmware. Do you have the steps and where did you get the latest version of firmware? Thanks!

So is 8720_01.1E.00 worth upgrading from 8720_01.17.03????

Just fearfull that stuff like my stored pics, or all my phone #'s will get deleted if I take in my E815 for an upgrade...

Is this something to worry about, or is the upgrade completely safe and won't affect current content on the phone??

thnx

your pics should be safe, and as far as your phone book...that will DEFINITELY BE SAFE...hell, no one would ever do updates if they deleted numbers!

Well there is always a slight chance, as with anything. But it won't be on purpose!
But is there any real advantages to the new firmware? My boyfriend bought this phone today and it came with 01.17.03! Should we update it?

i heard it does do a whole lot. It supposed to fix a problem with the alarm clock and i've heard that it also adresses the weak vibrate, other than those two things, I'm not really sure what it does.

Will this upgrade install Verizon's OS with the red bars on top and bottom, or leave Moto's GUI? Thanks!
