Buy E815 from Verizon or Amazon?

Amazon has the E815 for $25 with a 2-yr contract, and Verizon wants $150 (after rebates for both). Big difference. Need 2 phones.

What are disadvantages/advantages for buying the phone from one or the other?

Would the biggest advantage for paying the extra money and buying the phones from Verizon be if I need to return the phones numerous times in order to get one that works properly?

Of course, the main advantage of buying it directly from Verizon is that you can exchange or return it with ease if you don't like the phone (or so I've heard 🙂 ).

You can get the phone much cheaper from Amazon, but there may be hassles 😡 . I bought mine from amazon.com a couple months ago (supposed to be free after 2 rebates -- a $50 rebate from Verizon and a $150 rebate from amazon, and I only needed to sign a 1 year contract). The Verizon rebate went well, but it's not so for the Amazon rebate. I recently checked on the rebate status on the Amazon site and got a message that the rebate couldn't be honored because it was not valid in California! (no such info was mentioned when I purchased it). I called the rebate info phone number,...

Your feedback is exactly what I need - so far it has taken over two months and you still don't have the rebate. If I am going to be buying 2 of the phones, I don't need to put myself in the place of hoping that I will get a rebate to offset the cost. It appears that I would be best advised to bite the bullet (ouch) and buy the phones direct from Verizon. As you pointed out, putting aside the frustration (and concern) of wondering if the rebates will ever come, there is the very real possibility that I might recei...

RadioShack sells it for $99, no rebates to mess with.

$99 would be a good price if Radio Shack doesn't require a 2-year contract (I'm not sure how long a commitment RS would require). With new phones coming out like snow falling in New York, I would want to have a newer phone after 12 months :-)

By the way, just a follow-up to my previous message (for those contemplating buying it on-line from Amazon): After I got one message after another about my rebate request's not being honored by Amazon for unusual reasons (e.g., the promotion not valid in California, the phone might have been returned, etc.), I called the rebate web site, which processes rebates, and complained about this. They said there might have been a mistake but that only Amazon Customer Service would be able to correct it. So, ...
