Phone book question - PLEASE help
I know it says on this site that you can have like 6 #s under one person's name.
As silly as this may sound, is this going to mean that the person's name is going to appear 6 times in my phonebook or does the person's name just appear once and then when you go to it, it shows all the #s for that person.
This leads me to another question of does it allow you to lock people out of certain people's phone numbers. I have somewhat nosey coworkers and there are certain people's #s I don't want them to see because they were only given to ...

when you first create a new contact for someone you can identify multiple numbers and email address for them in one feel swoop but the numbers themselves show up as individual mulitple listings in the contact list (home, work, mobile etc.)
When you use voice command you can state their name and contact type (home, work, mobile etc) and it will connect with that specific number or at aleast clarify which number it thinks you want and you can assure it will connect properly.
with speakerphone on you can do this with the case closed using one side button and the voice command.

Ringtones: You can set a particular ringtone for an individual caller.

Lockout issue: do not know
Guess I'll keep on looking for a phone.
I hate the name being displayed multiple times for someone. I like all the numbers under one person's name.
the voice commands do not even need training.
I do not work in the industry but I will say that this phone as a pone is wonderful. the camera is good considering it is part of a phone and I find myself using it often.
I have not used bluetooth or webrowser featrures.
I was also looking at the Samsung a890 and I know it gets bad reviews but it gets those reviews on stuff I don't care about. I actually ordered it but Verizon keeps telling me it's out of stock (even though one day the site says it is and the next it doesn't, but they still say that it is if you email them about it).
My current phone is a samsung though and I've had no issues with it and it allows the phone book feature I like and has the lockout feature, so I assume this one would too.
My other cons...

This is my second 815 and seems to be working fine. I get the very rare echo on the speakerphone.
I know every phone is different though. With the phone I have now, there are problems people say it has that I've never had.
I do not have experience with the samsungs.
the 8100 style was sure nice but no matter how hard I tried I could not ignore the problems so within my 15 days I swapped it and then I got used to the 815 and it serves me well so far and for free.
with the 815 contact list without using the commands you woul...

Reason again being nosey coworkers. I don't want to fight the battle again of why they're calling me or why I'm calling them or why I have this # and they don't and blah blah blah.
It's a sad day when you have to lock your phone for certain people and even rename them just so people will leave you alone.
And the only person I speed dial is my friend. He's #9. He was #9 on my last phone and he's #9 on my current phone.
Everyone else I just go to their name and enter it and then get the # I want. I even do that for my home phone. How sad is that. ...

thanks for bringing up the entire question of contacts listings. through this thread I learned certain options I was not aware of for this phone.
That, well, sucks. lol.
Everytime I think hey, I think I'll go ahead with this phone, something else comes up that stops me. Blah. lol.
Excuse me while I go curse verizon some more for being "out of stock".
And you're welcome. 🙂

So the number shows up instead of the name?
That, well, sucks.
No, not "instead of", but either/or.......
If all you want to see is the name & icons, you just scroll left or right.
If you want to see the numbers assigned to the contact, hit "View" and scroll up or down.
My advice to you is to get the phone, read the manual and play around with the contacts list. It gives you the options that it sounds like you want. Then, if you don't like it, take it back under your 14 day right-of-return.

If this isnt' working for you, that's really weird.
my wifes number starts with 315-86..
I realized that a number she was calling me on was one digit off from the one in my list and I was reading it so quickly and expecting her call that my mind simply new it was her and read the number incorrectly asif it were the one in my list.
In fact when I specifically asked her to call me from the number I have in the contact list her name did indeed come up.
So... I apologize to everyone who took the time to try and figure this out. It baffled me for some time.
1. As others noted, you can save multiple numbers, emails, etc. under one contact. If you select the view all contacts, then you will see the persons name as many times as numbers stored.
or
2. Once all contact numbers are stored, you can set a particular number to the primary and then you can set the view to "view primary #." Only one listing per person will appear. If you then highlight that name, you can scroll left and right to reveal the icons of the other numbers, but you cannot see the numbers themselves.
This was one of the things I disliked about Motorola phones since the v60, but the primary view has been okay for now. I just got the phone last week and it's definitely worth...

But I assume it doesn't have the lockout feature where no one could see any numbers, including the primary?
how is this setting done?

interesting! I have not determined how to set "view primary" as you described in option 2. I set a number as the primary but it still shows up as individual listings.
how is this setting done?
Page 77 in the manual describes how to accomplish this.

this is not what I expected. I had hoped that you can initially see only the primary number but have icons that you can select to view the other numbers. With this setup you only see theprimary and being able to then view the other alternate contact numbers is lengthy in process.
Not lenthly at all. When you are at the primary contact & icon, hit "View" to actually see that contact phone number. Then, simply scroll down to run through the other numbers you have listed under that contact.

Alternatively, and even easier, instead of hitting "view" you can just hit the right or left arrow and it will take you to each other entry for that contact.
Absolutely correct, howard. Even easier, yet!
For some reason, I got the impression that sammy was wanting to see the actual number for the contact, which took me into my much lengthlier process. 😉

Thanks! I expected to utilize a scroll method but via actually viewing all the icons for that contact at once. This works fine. I just would not have guesed the operation.
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help.

Putting it another way lets say you have 3 numbers for a contact, one for home, one for work and one for his cell. Well who on earth sends a text message to a home number? As soon as you hit text message the contacts should default to cell numbers or at least show them as the top number for the contacts, and guess what there is no way to change this that I know of. Because even if you set primary numbers in ...

Sorry if anyone else has posted this already. Didnt feel like reading the 100 replies that were already posted.
Somewhere in navigating this labyrinth, I missed that.
Even though I did see a reference to Page 77, but I didn't realize exactly what that meant.
There are however .:ways around this:. but they probably won't know it.
It's an option on my current Samsung phone. While you're looking at the person's stuff you just choose the option of "secret on" and then it saves and you have to enter the code to view the person's information.
Even when they're calling, it'll say their name (or whatever you have them displayed as), but the phone # doesn't display under it on the internal display. It simply says "secret" instead of their #.
I think it's a cool feature and more phones should come with it.
Don't you keep it with you? That would seem the easiest thing to do and I just can't imagine that people try to see that "VERY SMALL" phone number display on the outside while your phone is ringing!!! 😳
I would think your phone is in a case, pocket or pouch of some kind and can't be seen, unless you like leaving it lying around on a desk top. And if you do that, you deserve to have someone see it! 🙂
The problem however arose when one of my coworkers had to go pick up another one when her care didn't start. She asked to borrow one of our cellphones to call the girl in case she got lost. My manager was going to give her hers, but I was closer and I didn't mind her using mine.
That however was a mistake.
She claims she "accidentally" hit send on the phone (which is bullcrap because she had a cellphone in the past and knows what it does when you do that), which brings up my last 10 calls list (and if you know anything about my call list you know that tho...

There are many scenarios where someone might borrow or stumble upon another's phone. Or the phone might be lost.
The how's and why's aren't important.
Is there a Secret type function for selected numbers?
Another possibility is just making up a nickname with an unrelated icon for that person's private number so co-workers don't know who it is, even if they see the display.
Fortunately, my co-workers would never consider ****ing with my gear.
But yes, you can use a password to lock the phone so like you said, if it is lost or picked up by a co-worker, nobody will be able to use it or see the phone book.
That should certainly take care of it. 😁
That's too bad. I have that feature on my current phone, much more convenient than having to unlock the phone every time I want to make a call.
