Beware of Motorola's Warranty

I purchased an unlocked Motorola 878, which broke three weeks after the purchase. I sent the phone to the Motorola Texas repair center. First they lost the phone then they returned it unrepaired. I have been given several different excuses for Motorola's failure to repair, which includes the following:
(1) The phone was not manufactured in the USA (however, none of the phones are).
(2) The repair is too costly.
(3) The phone was discontinued.
(4) The repair center does not have the parts
(5) Just buy another phone.

To date, Motorola has refused to honor its one year warranty. They have not repaired the phone, replaced the phone or resolved the situtation. During my last call to Motorola, a supervisor just hung up.

Send Motorola a certified letter telling them what you want them to do, within the parameters of your warranty. You can find their address on the web. Send a certified letter, with return receipt requested. If they do not respond to you within 30 days, sue them. There are tons of attorneys out there that would take on an alleged "deceptive trades and practices" lawsuit.

I'm sorry you are having difficulties w/ Motorola, but I'm sure most people here would agree that they do indeed honor their warranties.

It could also have something to do with the fact that this is an overseas phone that he is trying to get repaired in their US repair facility. Maybe Motorolas US repair facilities don't repair overseas phones. Can't say for sure, but maybe they have a repair center abroad that repairs phones released in those markets?

Stop coddling this guy. This sounds to me like he got a gray market phone or some Hong Kong factory second, or from some other 'irregular' source, brought it to the US and is now mad because it doesn't work like he hoped. Either that or he's some Nokia or other mfr hack.
If he spent half the energy on working with Motorola that he spent posting his bitchsession to every board on the web, and he went at it with a solution-orientation that is not in evidence in the tone of his post, he would have had his problem addressed.
Let's move on, folks.
