Can Hardly Wait!

My local Verizon Store states they will have the 6600 on display on Monday. The salesperson saw the excitment I had for this new device and gave me a sneak preview.

It looked SOOOO KEWL!

Is the volume really an issue?
Is it CRAZY to spend 45 a month for a DATA Plan?
Have any of you used the Intellsync? Any comments on it performance?

Apologies for so many questions.

I've had the device for about a week. I'm still using the standard issue headset/mic and the volume is so-so. I've got mine cranked up all the way for use in the car. I'm waiting to get a Jabra BT250 Bluetooth headset (read other posts regarding Bluetooth issues).

$45/mo for a data plan isn't the cheapest, but it's not unheard of. How married to your data are you? That will determine if it's worth it. If you have to get up-to-the-minute data while your device is disconnected, then you don't have a choice. If you can live without it, then $45 is a question of luxury.

Do you mean ActiveSync, not Intellsync? I orginally was using the ActiveSync/Verizon Wireless Sync combo when I got the unit. Then I discovered that with our Exchange 2003 server, Exchange ActiveSync is built-in. Now I'm syncing directly with the server for Calendar, Contacts, and Inbox. Pretty sweet because I'm no longer reliant on my desktop running Verizon's Wireless Sync, AND I'm not sending my Outlook data to Verizon (if you're paranoid this could be a BIG plus).

I did mean Intellisync, it was mentioned in the article.
By the way, how is your company securing the data passing to your device? Inherent Exchange ActiveSync Server is not secure.

Ah yes, I believe the Verizon Wireless Sync software is powered by IntelliSync. That software setup did work fine, but as I mentioned before, I no longer use it.

Exchange 2003 ActiveSync has to be accessed over https. That's what I found in my research of setting it up. If you do not have https I think it errors out. I've setup a sub-domain address (webmail.domain.com) linked to one of our public IP's, and I purchased an SSL cert for that name. In my ActiveSync software I just point it to the subdomain and check the box for secure connection. Authentication is sent over https which makes me feel pretty safe.

Do you find the ActiveServer Sync is as fast as the intellisync?

PS...
My device is arriving on Thursday... I am feeling a bit of buyers remorse at the moment... feeling kind of crazy spending THAT much on a phone not to MENTION the data plan... hopefully, I will get over it when I get that bad boy in hand.

They probably won't have them in stock on monday. They will still have to have the phone shipped to you. Just letting you know so you don't expect to walk out with one in your hand. You should (hopefully) get it Tuesday if you order before 1 or 2pm.

Can it be ordered via the Web? If so, are there any additional incentives if ordered via the web?

I can't seem to find it anywhere on the site accept for the article regarding the announcement.

according to the intranet site at work, it had Monday as the launch date to retail. It's already available to Business users. Probably will show up tomorrow on VZ's site.
