Information lost after battery discharges

My battery completely discharged one evening - the next morning I woke to find that all of the information had been cleared from the phone (installed software, contacts, calendar events, etc).

When I remove the battery from the back of the phone, after waiting 1/2 hour (or so) and replace the battery, the Power Control Panel shows that the backup battery is at 0%. Is this normal?

Anybody have these problems? The people at Verizon are telling me that this phone will loose all of its information soon after the battery is depleted.

I have had the same thing happen. I thought that I would be smart and save on the wear and tear of the unit. So, I removed the battery and placed it in the cradle to charge over night. To my fustration I awoke to a Pphone minus all the info i had spent hours getting sync'd. Of course I was running behind for an Appt and had to hurry to get it all sync'd back up again.

Yep. this is absolutely true. This is the one downfall I have seen with this device. This is why we at Verizon are pushing everyone to purchase extra batteries. They are being sold for only $30 right now.

Did we all forget to read the instructions that explicitly state that there is a 20 minute backup NiMH battery in case you lose the main battery? It even says to plug in the phone as often as possible when not using the device.

Sorry for your loss of data, but the instructions that shipped with mine were extremely clear about how to maintain the phone and the data that I load. There is also an option to backup all installed software and data to an SD card so this issue won't become a showstopper as well...
