Issues with RAZR V3

I'm on my second RAZR with T-Mobile. I began having technical issues with the first that included entering contacts, saving them with all their information, going back in to add more informaion and the contact is not there or is only partially there.
Also when trying to finish entering contact info, the phone kept asking for an email address even though I didn't want to add one.

Difficulties with setting up voice dialing. There seems to be a way to do it, but it's not very clear. When I set up several voice dials and tried to use it, the feature kept asking me if I wanted to send a text message and when I went into the contact page, it did not show a phone number for that person anywhere.

Text messages are not being sent or ...

Looking for info on how to turn up the ear piece volume. I called tmobile customer service and was told the way to do it is to turn up the ringer volume. That doesn't seem quiet right to me. 😕

Does anyone out there have a way to make it easier to HEAR PEOPLE TALK and not just by turning up the ringer volume? 😉

It's funny you should mention this! I was ready to put a post in today with the exact same issue. I purchased a new Black RAZR from Cingular a few days ago and love the phone except - I AM STRUGGLING TO HEAR THE PERSON I"M TALKING TO on the phone's ear piece which are three small grooves above the screen.

I thought I had a defective phone and got a replacement and I still have the same problem. Yes, I made sure that my ear piece volume was set up to max which is No. 7 and I'm still struggling. Cingular told me that the three groves have to be positioned just right on the center of the ear but there was nothing else that could be done. I even email Motorola Tech support who said that there was no magical setting or customization that coul...

with p2kman, motorola-tool, and a USB cable on a PC you can edit the gain_table.bin file on the RAZR to modify the volume levels. Search HowardForums.com for details...

Thanks Lapwolf.

I read your post and then went into Howardforums as you suggested. I have to tell you that after reading what is required to change the gain_table.bin file, I am very reluctant to try this for fear I could really damage something on my new RAZR. This looks very confusing and complicated and very prone to error. Do you have any easy user friendly ways for me to make this happen? Would a Motorola Repair Center be able to perform this? Where should I go from here. I really want to fix this earpiece volume issue, but want to fix it easily and quickly. Thanks in advance for your help.

Certainly, modding the phone is a good alternative, but don't give up so easily on making sure the phone is centered on your ear, as the tech said. I really haven't had any difficulty hearing in 18 months of ownership. Like anything new, it tkaes a little getting used to. And I don't typically have it on "7."

IMO, one of the strengths of the RAZR is its length when open - I like having a slim phone, but hate having the mic somewhere up near my cheekbone. The RAZR can be move up further, to your ear, and still have the mic in a good place to talk and be heard.

And, of course, a Bluetooth headset will work well for you when you're on the go, where it may be less practical to keep the phone in a constant position.

The only easier, user friendly way to do it would be to have a friend who knows what they're doing do it. Motorola can't/won't do it and doing it yourself is really very easy.

Download p2kman and motorola-tool to your PC, connect your RAZR to your PC via USB, run p2kman, click the "UPDATE LIST" button, highlight the gain_table.bin file, click "PHONE >>> PC" button, use motorola-tool on that file, click "PC>>>PHONE" in p2kman, and upload the file back to your phone.

This is the easiest mod to your phone and you can branch out from there...

Ok, I got bold and daring and downloaded a file called Bezols P2kTools_v0719 based on some info I saw in the Howard forums. I found everything that I was supposed to find. I clicked on tools and found the Gain Table Option. I thought there was some smooth sailing and all I was going to do was chnage the earpiece volume to "3" or "4". But, the phone was disconnected. I even plugged in the USB Cable properly. It seemed to find the V3 and recognize it and then I got a message asking if I wanted Windows to update the software. I checked the box that said "Yes, do it one time only". I tried to do it and it said I had a hardware error. I don't even know if any of this is even related. So, what do you think my problem is? I thought the P2k Tools al...

I have never used p2ktools, just p2kman for file transfers to/from the phone. Check this URL:

I clicked on the link you provided but I honestly could not understand one word of it.. I think the only issue with the pKtools was that there were some drivers missing because I could not connect to the RAZR after connecting the USB cable. I am not against going your way, which is to use the PKman, but you didn't provide me with enough detail in your earlier post. What I need is a link to go get the PKman download and Moto software and then maybe a little more detail in your explanation. I just want to get this done because I love the phone, but hate the volume on the earpiece! Any help would be most appreciated.

Everything you need is explained and or referenced on that page. To get p2kman you'll need to register on http://www.motomodders.net
and download it (there's a link on the referenced page as well).

I have forgotten where I got motorola-tool.exe so that's another search on Howardforums or use XVI32 to edit the file in hexadecimal as described in the previously provided link (just search the page for "gain" and you'll find the appropriate paragraphs).

Bottom line, you're just using p2kman to transfer files to/from the phone and motorola-tool or XVI32 to flip a couple of bits.
