Choosing between 7610 and 6230

This is my post from the 6230 forum, but I figured it was relevant here too:

I've had my eyes set on the 6230 from Cingular, but it seems by the time it comes out the 7610 will not be far behind.

The major differences of consequence to me are:
The 7610 has Series 60, a megapixel camera and a bigger screen. The 6230 is a little smaller and lighter, has FM radio, EDGE and a normal keypad.

Is the lack of EDGE in the 7610 that big a deal? And is Series 60 that much of an improvement? Any thoughts on what could tip the scale in either direction would be greatly appreciated.

Also has anyone heard about the 6230i? Here's a story from Mobile-review: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-623 0i-en.shtml

Thanks,
Jared

The 6230i is a hoax. That pic is some photoshop work.

Regarding the 7610, how much of a data user are you? Do you routinely check your email using your phone? Do you expect to be uploading & downloading lots of files? I almost never bother going online with my phone or checking email (well I'm with ATTWS and don't like their data plans), so for a person like me, I don't care that the 7610 doesn't have EDGE. I'd choose it over the 6230 simply for the bigger screen, and that megapixel camera is a nice bonus.

The 6230 is a nice phone though, but personally, I just can't go back to that little 128x128 screen. I don't know what anything about the pros & cons of the Series 60 platform. I'll leave that discussion to someone more knowledgable....

This would be my first internet phone so I don't know how much data I'd be using. But I imagine I'd occasionally check email and look at the weather and news every once and a while. Plus a lot of texts, but those are small. So it'd be used mainly as a phone, for goofy pictures and for mp3's.

If that's all you're going to use it for, I think you'll be fine. When I first got my T616, I started using it to check email and visit different WAP sites and all that online stuff. I never felt the data service was too slow.

Sending txt msgs won't be an issue. Sending pictures off that megapixel camera might be though. Even with the T616's cheesy camera, pics take an extra second or two to send than I would like. I certainly wouldn't send a lot of mp3s. If you need to, that's what bluetooth is for!

So if you use this for txts, the occassional picture msg and browsing your email, you'll be fine. You should insist on an EDGE phone only if you're a heavy data user. For instance, if you're one of those people who tether their phone to a...

OK, so far so good. Thanks for your help. But I've been reading reviews and they've said that the 7610 isn't that good at mp3's and that it doesn't play in stereo (even with headsets?). B/c I'd like to use the phone rather than carry around an mp3 player. So if it plays music well, then it sounds good. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hmmmm... I've never really considered using a phone as an mp3 player, but I can see the appeal of it.
If you do intend to use it for that, I'd probably choose a different phone. I haven't had a chance to hear this phone play music, but in general, mono sound is disappointing.
I'm not sure if the 6230 is stereo either... Does anyone out there have a suggestion for a stereo capable phone?
