I am a long time (10 years) Nokia user and live in central Maryland and have been with Cingular for 10 years. I can't remember having a dropped call or even very choppy reception for any lenght of time. I want to get a phone that has features that Cingyular's does not have and so I am strongly considering a switch to Verizon. My choice is the 6100. However, I am concerned about what seems to be a lot of complaints about no reception, choppy reception, roaming , etc.

I presume that some of this relatess to pockets that always exist where reception is problematic. There also are concerns about the phone switching to analog. Isn't that what a tri mode is supposed to do? Does this greatly affect reception? The signal here in centra...

Hi,
I can only speak for myself and my daughter experience these last 8 weeks with our 6100's.
So far the reception has been excellent. I had a lg 4400 before and had alot of dead spots in the hospital where I worked. So far I have not found any dead spots with my 6100. I also can be in a elevator and talk with no dropped calls. My daughter lives at college in a steel building dorm and has no problem either.
The only problem I have with the phone is that the speakerphone is a little tiny, but I don't use it much anyway. If you do decide on the 6100 make sure it comes with the new software upgrade. There was a volume bug before but this fixs it and also makes the phone a little louder and clearer

Thanks for the information. I have been reading about the "volume bug" and the software fix. I'll make sure that Verizon checks the phone to see if it is a newer version or an older one that needs the fix.

if i were you, i would try out the phone for 15days and really test it out. if it works out great for you, then keep it. i had reception issues with this phone. as for analog switching, sure, it's supposed to switch but not when the phone is just sitting on your desk and digital signal is ok, it should stay in 1x or digital. My experience is, it constantly switches w/ no one using the phone and therefore, the battery drains pretty fast. i returned 2 of those for the crappy looking moto v265. guess what, reception is very good. it's also tri-mode but it doesn't switch to analog when digital signal is good. if you're still a skeptic, maybe just wait for the nokia 6255i. I've seen and played w/ it. looks like a great, well built phone. signal w...
