Verizon Wireless across my inside screen after *228?

I've had this phone 2 weeks now and just did my first *228 roaming capabilities update (option 2 from *228 main menu) and now the words "Verizon Wireless" are underneath by banner (my first name) on my inside screen. Annoying because it's covering up a lot of my wallpaper now.

Does anyone know how to remove these words? It's not saved into my banner, only my name is.

Thanks.

Also, I forgot to add that I'm in Northern California and am on the America's Choice plan, so I'm not sure if this affects how these phones are programmed?

All I know is that the words "Verizon Wireless" are not stored into my banner so it's not like I can erase them by just clearing out the banner. And they weren't there BEFORE I did my first *228 update.

Introvert--

I'm no expert (I just got my first cell phone (the LG VX6100) on Tuesday, but I've read thru a good number of the posts on this forum and have learned that the only way to remove the banner is to take it in to a Verizon tech person. However, if and when you do a *228 again, the Verizon banner will reappear. If you feel you can live without the *228 updates, then take it into Verizon. Otherwise, I guess you'll have to live with it.

It was a mistake that the phone was released without the banner. It gets "fixed" when you do the *228. The banner is a roaming indicator which will change from "Verizon Wireless" to "Extended Network" or "Roaming" as appropriate.

You can get rid of it if you have a data cable and BitPim to edit the eri.bin file with a hex editor. Complete instructions are here:

BitPim is a program that lets you copy files to and from your phone. If you don't want to get into that, you can try taking it to a store. Ask for a tech and tell them you want a non-ERI (enhanced roaming indicator) PRL. Like chj said, the PRL will be overwritten (and the banner will reappear) the next time you do a *228.
