First you have to train the voice dialing, under the settings menu and voice services. Then when the phone is closed, the left button (under the longer volume button) is the one you hold down to activate the driving mode. When that is activated, when you open the phone it prompts you to say a command, ie contacts, digit dial, schedule, etc. it is very simple to use once you get the hang of it. hope this helps.

Train what? According to the info page here, the voice dialing is "speaker-independent (no training required)".

He should have said you have to train the "Voice commands" (and you really don't have to)

You have the option to train the "Command Words" and the Digits" for "Digit Dialing"... This just makes them MORE accurate...

I do miss the TM-510 ability to train for each phonebook entry. Suppose my problem is being from the south, and it doesn't recognize my inflection very well. I went thru the Command words and Digit dialing and those work well. Name dialing for me is very hit and miss, mostly miss.

I have the 6100 for almost a week and I came to like this feature a lot.

When the phone is set in driving mode and you receive a call with the flip open, the main LCD shows the caller's number, and an announcement comes on saying "call from "the person's name" (if the name is stored in the phone book.) "Do you want to connect?" If you say "yes", then the speaker phone turns on, if you say "no" it rolls over to your voice message (if it is set up.)

If the flip is closed when you receive the call, it says "call from So and So". When you open the flip, the speaker phone is activated. Otherwise it rolls over the your voice message.

When the caller hangs up, the phone is disconnected and the LCD goes back to your wallpaper, ready for ...

So, you have to leave the flip open to use driving mode? Not very ergonomic, or having to open the flip to use it.

Works fine clipped to my visor...

Also it really works great with a headset... then you can have the flip closed...

I use a Jabra "EarWave"... I have a dozen other ones but that is the best...

Note: Did not get my 6100 yet, but I often use my Wife's 4500 which has the same "Drive Mode"

Does this feature not work like that of the 4500? The neatest feature of the driving mode on the 4500 was that if you received a call it would tell you whom the call was from and then give you an option to answer the call without ever touching the phone. The flip did not have to be open and no training was needed. I just ordered my 6100 today and was hoping the voice activation was the same.

Yes it will only allow you to answer a call handsfree in driving mode. I have used the Jabra Freespeak headset with it and it works very well.

Are you sure...???

I did not get my 6100 yet, but it looks like it works just like the 4500... where while in a call you can go back and forth using the speakerphone by using the [UP] on the 5-way navigation key...

You can also turn the speakerphone on prior to a call with the same key...

Is it not like this on the 6100...???
