Koi for VZW

🙄 So for the past month I have known of the Kyocera Koi. I want it, and my contract renewal is soon. When is the koi coming out so I dont have to break down and buy the LG VX 7000? If anyone has a date or month that it could arrive I would be so thankful. By the way they should give a preview of upcoming products on VZW.

They do give a preview, did you not the the worthless string theory video for the V710? The Koi has no tangible release dates right now, but my guess and estimate, is that this and the VX8000 will be out for the Christmas and holiday season. If VZW can pull that off, then they will take ALL of the holiday money and all of the holiday phone buyers. Keep in mind, this is the most optomistic I can get, but that is my view. VZW is launching the EV-DO network, which means that the VX8000 has to be out within the next couple months, otherwise they would wait. I do not know of any other phone coming for VZW that has EV-DO. Also, VZW always has at least 2 new phones for the holidays. They just got in the VX6000 and the VX4500 in time last yea...

Actually the vx6000 was released july 7th last year... not anywhere near the holiday season. unless you are counting july 4th as the holidays. in which case, vzw didn't even make that deadline.

Well the VX6000 specifically was hyped for the Christmas season, not out for the Christmas season. It is/was VZW's top selling phone. These phones, the Koi and the VX8000 I am hoping to see before the Christmas 2004 season, so that they can be hyped with low prices during the holiday season. If they are not release for the holiday season, we are looking at the time frame of next year now for them, at least knowing VZW. 😉

If I am not mistaken.....I believe the 4500 was released Jan/Feb 2004....and the 8900 just missed the xmas hype and came out the beginning of January.

The big phones of Xmas were the LG 6000/4400, CDM 8600, Moto 730 & Samsung 530.

Those phones sure seem ancient when you look at the new top dogs....Lg 7000, Samsung 670 & 610, Kyocera SE47 & Moto 710 (Whenever it comes out).

Agreed, but all those phones have looked anceint any time after the 7000, and 670 came out. The Slider is a strech however. It seems to me, and I do not think I am alone in this assumption, but VZW seems to be "refitting" themselves with a whole new line of cell phones. THIS COULD BE THE SMARTEST THING THEY HAVE DONE IN 5 YEARS! It is about time we get some new phones, and the V710 as well as this Koi and the VX8000 are the phones that will revolutionize the market. These phones are going to set the standards high, and change the way we look at cell phones today. The sooner they come out, the more $ VZW makes, I only wished that they realized that.

Sorry, maybe I was just venting

I don't think VZW has been around for 5 yrs, but sometimes it seems that way - trust me! Considering the cell phn manufacturers design phns for marketing to 13 yr old boys - it is great to see something for us old *s.
I want the Koi and I'm praying for it to be out in time for back to school promos. Haven't seen the Kyo rep for a long time - I don't know how much longer my beloved Moto StarTAC can hold on...

If I were you, I would hold on to your StarTAC as long as you can. It was the best phone ever made. Certainly not the most technologically advanced, but definately the best phone made in regards to function. But as soon as it goes out, please get the newest phone you can get because the beloved StarTAC is just so unbeleivably outdated. Unless you feel like spending $900 for the new 10th aniversary edition, get something realiable.

All I am saying, is that the StarTAC was the best phone out. And it still works on the networks. I would hold onto it as long as I could, but when it went out, I would get the newest phone I can with the features I need the most. (i.e. do not skimp out because of price. If it is needed, it is worth the extra $)

You are right about price! Cheap seldom is the way to go. Though the Nokia 5185 and the Kyocera 2135 were pretty good little phns for the price... Sorry about the terse response this morning - have emailed Motorola several times about the quality of the StarTAC vs their current offerings. Their response made me believe that they are on better drugs than most people...

Haha, if you want a link to the new StarTAC, I will post it, I just do not see a point in the price.

Do you think it's real??? The price makes me think that it can't be - I know I love my "startacky", but 2000.00 ? Might be big w/ the Japanese collectors...BTW, Talked to a rep yesterday who tt a customer that had purchased a box of eighty 7868s from a Govmt sale for 5.00. He's keeping some as back-up and giving some to family and friends! Thanks for the links!

Well, I have dealt with wireless imports, and yes, they are for real. Here is the problems:

1)Shipping
2)Price
3)EV-DO network is only launched in some major cities--NYC, San Diego, Dallas--
4)Not all features work

If you can deal with the problems, but the phone, it has to be good, otherwise, stick with what you can get. No problem on the links.
