Recording ringtones

I have read somewhere that you can record sound on the phone, and then set that as your ringtone. First off, is this possible, and second, if I was to record a song (30 seconds or less, right?) and set that as my ringtone, would it sound good enough to use?

Also is this phone as gargantuan as it looks on paper? Still haven't gotten the chance to see one, and am purchasing it sight - unseen.

Thanks a lot.

the recorded ringtones sound terrible...you would be better off buying a cable and doing it that way.

Thanks for the responses, I have recently read that you can get a 3.5 mm male to male cord (normal cd player headphone size) and a converter to make it 2.5 mm (cell phone size) and record from that. Has anyone tried that? That sounds like a better way to do it without going through bitpim or something. Thanks again.

I have not found any that are good quality that you pay for? Not from any Get it Now places, the ringtones are terrible arrangements of songs, they all sound cheesie to me. Does anyone have recomendations of ringtones that are not arranged cheesily?

You can make them sound alright. You have to play with the distance of the phone microphone to the source until it sounds best. This phone needs to be very close to the source to sound ok. It is the opposite of the 7000, when the 7000 recorded to close to the source it sounded distorted.

Exactly, I recorded a few with the phone closer to the sound source and the sond came out really good. Good enough to be satisfied using it as a ring tone and the best part it is free 😁

I use an mp3 cutter and mp3 to wav converter to change the kbps. Can you use 128 kbps as a ring tone or do you have to use 64 kbps?

you *can* but there's like a 230 kb limit to your tone size.. and when i've gone above 64 i'm going up into the 500 at times

Thanks guys I appreciate it. The email way sounds pretty good. I'm just so darn cheap it would seem more satisfying to get around the even insignificant 25 cent fee. More replies would be appreciated. 🙂

I never have nor will I ever give into the corporate greed and pay 25 cents to send anything. I use the camera on my phone just so I can have different wallpaper and if I need to take a pic to send I use a digital camera 😁 And if I need to send a text message I log onto the Verizon web site and send free messages there. 😁 😁

Well, actually I really did spend 25 cents and I was able to attach 5 midi files in my email and send them to my phone so at 5 cents a ringtone it was worth it 😁 Other than that if you need to send a ringtone you simply call up customer service and say you had a problem and it never made it to your phone and they can credit you the 25 cents or how many you sent. 😁

64kbs is fine, it sounds great, also if you do try and send the ringtones to yourself see if there is a volume preset and put that all the way up. this is so you can hear the song better on the phone. i have green day-holiday on my phone and it is crystal clear 😁 😎
