I just came back from the verizon store. When I asked them if there is a data cable and software program so i could back up my contacts, like i have had on all my other phones they said NO! None of the three new EVDO phone will allow this. This is there is no way to back up your contacts and no way to use the phone as a modem! I have over 300 contacts and if i can't back up my phone for get it. Verizon sucks! Verizon has a service that you have to pay for every month to back up your contacts over the their get it now network. It costs, I think 4$ a month. Crooks.
If I am wrong please corect me, because i really want one of these new phones.

The 8000 is a data phone so it can be used as a modem. According to the specs on this site:

Data-Capable: Yes

This means that the phone can be used like a modem to connect a separate computer to the Internet or other system.

With the proper equipment and network support, some phones also allow faxes to be sent and received.

The store manager said verizon will not offer a cable or software for these phones. Is there any way to check?

I've never used the software or cable for any of my phones. However, does the store clone your phone numbers from an old phone. They are suppose to do that.

The store manager said verizon will not offer a cable or software for these phones.

My store manager said it's not uncommon for the data connection kit to become available a few weeks after introduction of the phone.

My store manager said the same thing, so I called the Verizon Wireless Web Support line to check further. They refused to detail whether a kit was coming, but expressly said that at this point in time, you are not ALLOWED to use the phone for data.

I asked them why this made sense - why on earth would you pay extra for a phone with high speed data features if you can't use it as a modem? The rep said he agreed but didn't know what to tell me, and when I mentioned the ability to do this with the XV6600, he said you're not actually allowed to use that as a modem either! (He also said it wasn't possible except using Bluetooth, though I thought I saw someone else posted that they got it to work with USB... is that right?)

I think Veri...

Give it time, it's as new phone. I'm sure there will be aftermarket support. it's basically supply and demand, if enough people demand soon will come a supply.

As for transferring or backing up your contact list - DataPilot is coming out with an update to their software for this phone by end of Feb, they claim.

I just spoke to customer service, they said that no data cables will be allowed with these 3 phones because you get unlimited mobile web with the vcast pack...you could in essence get free unlimited broadband access by hooking it up to your computer... and if you are upset about not being able to back up your contacts...try an pen and paper. They work pretty well i heard...

Interesting. That's exactly what Sprint has been doing for the last few years.

As for using the phone as a modem, you didn't expect unlimited EV-DO for your laptop for $15/month, did you? I hope not.

Although not allowing modem capability at all does seem pretty stupid. You'd think they would have figured out a way to selectively control and bill for such usage, so that if you want to use EV-DO with your laptop through your phone, you could, as long as you have the correct ($80/month) data plan.

If true, that is bad news that they couldn't figure that out.

😁 There is software available from DataPilot that will transfer all your contacts to your new 8000. The 7000 cable works with the 8000, as a matter of fact the 6100,7000, & 8000 all use the same cables. Hope this helps

I just got off the phone with customer service at Susteen, Inc., the manufacturer of DataPilot, and they say their current software version 3.8 is being tested with the LG 8000 and that their next version due to be out in four weeks will be the recommended version for the 8000.

As an update to the issue of synchronizing your contacts/calender between Outlook and the new 8000, BitPim's website doesn't yet mention the 8000 but there is the warning that using their software untested on any given phone could cause the phone to lock up so I think I'll pass for now.

Bitpim does not yet support the VX8000, and probably won't for at least another month. You can, however, use Bitpim to retrieve your pictures, and place ringtones and tunes on your phone right now if you set the phone as a VX7000 in Bitpim and view the filesystem. Phonebook won't work yet, though, but should be supported in the near future. This is just speculation, though, but that was the time it took for Bitpim to support the VX7000.

Glad to see some people that don't panic with the first problem they run into.

Sure gald we don't have them running this country or faced with a "real" problem! 🤣

Things have a way of working out and syncing the contact list and scheduler will be no problem. My gosh! give it some time, it has only been out for 2 days! 😉

Are there two questions here: Contacts and pictures download to your computer, AND plugging this phone into your laptop (USB) and being able to use the phone to dial into the Internet?
My phone arrives FedEx today but I ordered it when the salesman assured me laptop connection WOULD be OK -- even quoted current speeds and speeds of 540K in about six weeks. Am I confused?
