Rumor: New Cingular Firmware to be delayed

dchester

The word on the street is that the firmware Cingular had been testing and preparing to release, still has some issues. Thus they will not likely be releasing anything until the mid-June to early-July timeframe.

How do you get onto the site??? I visited that page that asks you if you want to be notified when the update is available, but it doesn't say anything different.

Do you have a link to that web address?

Here is one site, although it is in France.

Hey dchester,

Will this be the same upgrade in firmware that we are all waiting for? Have you used it? I'm kinda scared to install this on my phone. I guess you would have to unzip the file and then install, right?

The MPx220 doesn't have the ability to unzip files (does it?).

I dunno, I think I'd better just wait until the US site releases it.

They are all "test" versions. 1.43 is the latest one, now in testing. I would expect that either it will pass the testing and Cingular will bless it, or Cingular could request more changes from Motorola in which case there will be another version to go through testing (and of course further delays). It's just too bad that we have to go through back channels to get info about this, instead of Cingular making an announcement on where they are. If Motorola (and/or) Microsoft gives them buggy SW and they reject it, most people will understand the delay.

I downloaded this, but I'm not sure how to execute the zipped files. Any help on this out there?

Go to www.howardforums.com and then the Microsoft smartphone section. Get the install utility and you're good to go.

Okay, so I'm downloading the installer right now.

I visited the howardforums.com website as well. Does the installer have to match the same ROM upgrade source?

Those guys on howard are talking like there are some different installers and some are offline and some are online.

I think it may be safe just to wait on Motorola. Seems to me this version is just being tested out. They (Motorola) must sort of figure by now, they had better get it right this time, otherwise there will be nobody left that will keep fooling with this phone.

No, people have used various firmware versions with the latest installer.

It absolutely is a test version. If it passes all testing, then Cingular would accept it as an "official" version. If not, there will be another one to go through testing. I'm just glad these forums exist so we have some idea ...

Fact of the matter is it will be ready Friday.
All inventory will be upgraded and the wheels will be back in motion again. That means it will be back on sale as soon as inventory is available.

So, would that be around Mid June, or closer to early July?
