Internet works for a while...

Does anyone else have this problem:

My internet works great for a while, and sometimes I'll pick up my phone and I can't get any connection. IE, MSN Messenger, ActiveSync. None work when they usually do. If I power off then turn it back on they all work fine again. This happened on both firmware sets I had (.342, 1.3). Is this a Cingular issue?

Anyone have this problem, or any ideas?
😕

I'm not sure how the sidekick's work... but with the MPX220, you can look at pretty much any website. I have had problems with some sites (such as sites with frames, and flash, etc). But you can type in any URL and go to it. Hope this answers your question.

Did you ever get a answer to your question? I am having the same issue with my phone.

I had the same issue and even did a XBM swap of the phone for another at Cingular's request to fix this issue. Ultimately, it was a Cingular tech support rep who fixed the issue on their server end as they twiddled a bit somewhere at their end and my phone has been working flawlessly since (for over a month). YMMV.

gadgeTT:

Do you know what "bit" they "twiddled"? If not, do you have a case number that could be referenced?

Thanks.

Sorry, but I have no further details other than it was definitely something they fixed on their end. It might have had something to do with the fact that they used to have me on the Blackberry-type data plan, then switched me over to the unlimited MEdia net plan. Sorry I couldn't help more.

I have had the problem on 3 phones now (one store replace, one XBM replaced) with f/w 0.342 and 1.30. So I'd say that it is not a device specific issue. It is either an MPX220 problem on all devices - but only a few of us seem to eb complaining about this, so I assume for some people it works all fine(???). That only leaves me with a Cingular suspicion...

I've read various threads with no indication of a resultion - until now.

Anyway, following some of the advice on this thread, I called Cingular support (for the nth time...) and the guy re sent to my phone Over The Air (OTA) programming. This has not been done on the previous times I called, so, we'll wait and see. If it works, I'll report back.

As Mulder says - I want to beleive...

OK. A couple of days after the OTA programmning things are still the same - need to restart phone once a day at least. I called again and was told as before that I should replace my phone...

After explaining that that has been done, a tech suggested that the problem is with my PLAN. Unfortunatelly, I had to get the info second hand from the support person who spoke to the tech, so in her lay terms "Media Works is not designed to be a robust high bandwidth service, so it "chokes" on my requests eventually and refuses the connection. According to her, the solution would be to convert to a data plan.

So, I am a little affraid of changing plans and discovering that it will not work. Especially since the Media Works plans was...

While I can't offer anything in specific that will help you in your discussions with tech support, I can tell you that my MPx220 is on the MediaNet Works plan and I have not had a problem with data connectivity in months since the last bit was twiddled on their end. Therefore, I can confirm that the MPx220 phone can work fine with the MediaNet Works data plan and that most if not all similar connectivity problems are in the improper application and provisioning of the data plan on Cingular's end of the puzzle and NOT on the phone itself.

As always, YMMV.

I almost wish you wouldn't have said this since now I can't just give up and no doubt that I will be spending countless hours speaking to incompetant support people at Cingular...

uggh... so frustrating

No, mine still doesn't. I'm on my third handset two of which are the latest firmware. It's a hassle, but I've gotten used to having to turn it off and back on. 😡
