Voicemail/Password Discovery

I've looked into a couple of issues with voicemail feature and Verizon

1. Dailing your cell number and then hitting # does NOT go against the "IN - Network" minutes, it actually goes against the anytime minutes. The reason, according to Verizon is because we are not calling another or a different number. It's the same as *86.

2. I've tried to change the "voice mail" dail number by going to the Message Center, then to the Message Settings, then to Voicemail No. and inserting a p and Password. Then going back to the Message Center, and then voicemail, then hitting call. should dail *86p(Password). This only happens if there isn't any voice message in the voicemail box, but if there is it will only dail *86.

My test was changing ...

Here's your answers... I hope

Entering PW as part of your voicemail number: It sounds like you are entering the letter "p" after the *86 to insert a pause. What you need to do is press the menu button and select "Insert Pause" It will then insert a p for you. the p it places on the screen and the one you may enter would look identical, but one means something and the other is ignored by the phone.

The *86 v. cell number issue: I believe this is what is happening, but I'm not sure. when someone leaves you a voicemail, VZW tells your phone you have a voicemail message in your mailbox. It notifies the phone basically by sending a text message. The phone knows to put this text message in the "voicemail" folder rather than the "inbox" ...

Bobaloo, thanks for your reply. I did insert a pause, not a p. Pretty funny though, I didn't think of that when I was typing.

As of paragraph 2, I think I got what you were saying, but just to be sure......This means that I can't do what I wanted to right?

It seems that way. I just did a test myself and it functions just as you described. If I go to voicemail indication and press send or call for my voicemail message, it will dial *86 because the callback number in the voicemail notification text is *86... But I also found the solution to your problem... When you receive a voicemail notification, just press end till you get back to the main screen. Then if you voice dial "voicemail," it will dial the number you have in your message settings. I was able to get my password entered with a pause, so I'm not sure what your trouble is there. And when I say voice dial voicemail, I mean when you press the voice button say voicemail. not name dial ---> voicemail.

does that make sense to you?...

I believe that there are 2 places to enter the Voicemail Number (*86).

#1) Under the Phone Directory, with an entry called "Voicemail" and "Speed No.1". This is linked to holding down the #1 key.

#2) Under "Message" menu, then "Message Settings", then "Voicemail No." I still don't know how and when this one is used.

I put the "*86p#0000" under #2) above and could never get the password to be automatically entered regardless of pressing key#1 or pressing dial when the SMS is read. But after using #1) above, pressing key#1 works and so does the voice command of "Voicemail". You just have to make sure that the "Speed No." is set to "1".

Press the bottom button on the right side of the phone [It's labeled with a Pacman and two ))'s]. This brings up the "ObeyMoto" program (voice commands) and "Voicemail" is the 4th entry, right after "Camera".

Don't worry about it. 😁

It took me a week to notice it. My mind automatically thought the list was only "dialing" related commands, but when I took a 2nd look is when I noticed both "Voicemail" and "Camera".

I have also put in a recommendation of other commands to list on this menu. There was someone at HowardForums that is creating a "Master List" of bugs and suggestions to Motorola on the v710.

p.s. I did a typo on "ObeyMeMoto".

Hey MoblileMadMan, it's been a long day, and I'm having a comprehension problem right about now. So, basically #2 as you listed in your previous note, doesn't really work. right????

For me... Yes, I have NOT been able to get that # to be used. What I did was to put the "*86" ONLY under the listing on the Directory and the "*86#p" + my password under this location and tried all different ways to get into my Voicemail (e.g. Voice command, SMS prompt, holding the #1 key down) and only the "*86" were automatically entered, but nothing else. So I have to assume that this location for Voicemail either isn't used by the phone, or everything after the "*86" is ignored.

Thanks MobileMadMan, I started to feel dumb....and dumber as the days went by. I've read that this worked for some people, but couldn't understand didn't it work for me.

Babaloo had written something about when you receive a voice message something like a text is sent which is probably *86 only. Do you know anything about this.

I have heard about this also. I don't know (yet) about how the phone knows how to prompt from this Voicemail SMS for "CALL" into Voicemail, but I will post as soon as I find out. I suspect that is a special SMS that also gives the "*86" (w/o "#p0000") instruction to the phone.
