I in desperate need of new phone to replace my dieing Kyocera 3035. Was offered the V 710 fo $ 50.00. Went to VZ store to play with it and found the keypad falling apart, keys coming loose, chrome strip falling off. I asked salesperson how long has it been on display she said about 2 weeks. I WOULD NOT TAKE THIS PIECE OF JUNK FOR FREE. Based on what I have read here I am not alone. Guess the best bet is to wait for the Audiovox or LG. Any recommendation's?

The phone its self is very good, but the manufacturing of the hone has some high defect rates. If you get one that is not defective then it is a great phone. nothing better. I have had no problems with the phone and I know I am not alone. so if it really bothers you that you kinda have to work to find a good one then I guess don't bother.

im going to be honest with you...

to pass up a $50 v710 you are a complete moron and you should hang yourself. if you had half a brain you would get the phone for $50, and if you didnt like it, sell it on ebay. you can get atleast $200-300 for it on ebay without question.

im actually a nice person, but you needed to be told that. dont take it personally 🙂

This is a one shot deal for the $ 50.00. If I bought the 710 and sold it on ebay, I would be no further ahead because when the LG 8000 or Audivox comes out i still have to pay $ 200- 300 for a phone.

When you say keypad falling apart
What do you mean? the slight up and down movement?
So radio shack handed you a $320 phone to you as a possible buyer with all the peices falling off?

I think the phone is amazing and wouldn't trade it for any other. My last phone was a sidekick and v710 kills it.

No it was Verizon store that had the phone on the display board for 2 weeks with everthing hanging off it. No oyjer phone on the display was in this horrible shape.

My point was that this kind of keypad should NOT have the ties around them. It's pretty much a one-piece keypad. Of course it may buckle if the sides are pushed in. Just right now I put moderate pressure on the sides and the gap between the keypad and the cover's plastic disappeared. ALOT more pressure, and making it constant will force something less strong to give/make-way, and that's the keypad.

Bottom line, this phone should not be displayed in this manner. It's just simple logic after looking at the design of the phone.

every phone in the VZW store is like this. EVERY keypad is buckled because they tie them down so tight.

I also own an Samsung i600 (for work) and i remember before purchasing it i noticed the keypad all buckled and i was thinking to myself "Man for the amount of money they want this thing is built like crap!"

in reality all cell phones don't cost much to manufacture. Maybe $30-50 and then they mark them up like mad.

but yes they should not display the phones in this manner!

Curiously (assuming you stop by again to read replies), was that VZW store one of the ones that uses the tight plastic ties across the keypad to prevent theft? There were reports two weeks ago about phones in stores with those ties on...

Yes it did have the ties around the phone, but still the keypad just feels "cheap" compared to other phones.

Thats not the point. I would be giving up the chance to own a decent phone (LG 8000 or audiovox) for this piece of crap. I would have to live with it for 2 years.

I am waiting for the Audiovox 9900. Could be out as soon as Sept 7th. Looks promising, especially if you are OK without Bluetooth and Transflash. It has a better outside display (the main display is also supposed to be exceptional), the keypad...

ew, I wouldnt be caught dead with that big, square, styless phone ;)

honestly, that is one of the poorest looking phones in my opinion. but it may work great, so if you can take how it looks, power to ya.

I cant see what audiovox and LG were thinking when they built these 9900, 7000 and 8000 models. horribly styless.
