Yeah...to get into the gps of the phone you have to put the phone in test mode. To do this hit menu then quickly key in 00**83786633*( which spells out 00**testmode*) (you may have to try a few times if you until you do it fast enough). This will bring you back to the original screen if you did it correctly (you will be in test mode). What this does is put the phone in test mode. To get to where the gps information is hit menu then the left '.' key. The first page is the tower info. If you go through the pages (the '.' keys are 'prev' and 'back', the 'next' is a little misaligned, you'll see what I mean), you will get to a page that says GPS Session in progress please wait...after a bit it will give you your coordinates. Your phone might no...

Not saying anyone is a moron, but, going into these modes can put someone into a place into the phone where they can kit the wrong key and... woops, some setting can get changed that screws things up...

this one is not that bad, opt codes can really ruin someones day!

btw... these phones don't have true GPS, it is aGPS and will not work unless the carrier has it employed... you can read about aGPS by doing a google or ask jeeves.

Level 2,

You said "this one is not too bad"

Can you screw up the phone in "testmode"? Can you give a little more insight?

Thanx

I am a tech also, yes you can screw up the phone in test mode. I really reccommend not going into test mode.

Yes one can, I said that already. No more insight is needed. It is not for the consumer, it is for the technicain and I will not put that information on the internet, it is proprietary to Moto. what more insight does one need than that?

To get out of the test mode you hit the keys that spell TESTOFF. Otherwise, you will never get out of the mode.

Anyone get a GPS reading? ... mine still shows "error" when trying a new session. Also noticed the IP address (under GPS) is blank (no idea if anything should be there).

I am a tech too, I really wouldnt try it, even if you know what you are doing. I really dont think you wanna pay the fees to fix it or go through the hassel of getting a new one and trying to explain it to Verizon that you messing around with the programming and you screwed your perfect as the way it is Moto V710.

But that GPS thing is tempting. I use GPS with my PDA now. Just think, Bluetooth (after the fix) GPS readings from the phone to my PDA or laptop. Sounds like a project for a true hacker (real meaning) to me. Way beyond my skill level, that's for sure.

The phone isnt designed to be used like that. Plus anyways its not true GPS, its aGPS, and isnt that accurate.

For those who don't understand, and just to clarify what jeffro said, YOU WILL NOT get a GPS reading! The "a" in aGPS means assisted. In short, the provider must also activate a GPS sesson specific to your handset inorder to get any sort of reading (Some police dispatch centers can do it too, but not many). You will continue to recieve "Error". I don't think aGPS is any more or less accurate than the GPS you would find in a handheld trip unit or navigation system. It's just not meant to be used by the consumer for average needs. In fact, I think Verion RARELY, if ever, initiates an aGPS session. A phone of mine was stolen, and I knew location was set to "on" and not just "911 only", but Verizon refused to use that feature to find it.

OK. So what is the difference between having it on or just set to 911? There must be some product or service out there or planned that can make use of it otherwise why would there be that option? Come on guys let's dream a little here. We can make this phone do more than VZW or Moto ever thought of!
