Voice dial is limited in that you have to know who you want to call. If you have business contacts and can't remember the person's name, but you'd know it if you saw it, you'd need to scroll your phonebook. If you can't look at the keypad, the only way to know what contact you are on is buy listening to the phone say the name.

ok... that's a HUGE stretch, but they put it there for a reason. I don't know. I'm trying here.

Ok. is this in regards to Voice Recording or the Voice Sound setting for Phonebook?

that was for the phonebook.

I have no clue why they let you voice record. Especially since the mic is so weak the person has to be holding the phone in front of their mouth or wearing a headset. Its not like you could record a meeting or something

The advantage to this feature is you can simply say the name of the contact without having to record it.
In other words, when you store Sally Smith in your phonebook, you do not have to then take another step to record her name so that you can voice dial her. You can simply his the side button, say "Name Dial" then when prompted say, "Sally Smith". If you have several numbers in there for her it asks which one you want to dial. I think this is a pretty cool feature when I am driving. I put on speaker phone and then run through the process.

Say you don't remember now you typed the name in, you can scroll through each person in the phone book and it will say each name.

Hope that helps. 🙂

But i did set it to voice.. Now what? Do i actually go to my phonebook and as i am scrolling.. the voice will be telling me the names thru the earpiece? or headset? Somebody told me this VOice setting phonebook is good cause you dont have to look at your phone.. but if i am physically scrolling thru it, i am looking at it.

Go to the phonebook.
Scroll through the list.
If you are using the navigation pad you really don't have to look at the phone. Put the speak on and you don't even need the headset! 😉
Give it a go! You'll like it!

Thanks for the info. I learn something new about this phone everyday. I did notice though that unless I had the speakerphone on I couldn't hear the voice. Did you try turning on your spearkerphone to hear the voice?

forget it - I answered my own question thanks to help from rls01

My "KEYPAD VOLUME" was down to "0"

That's why I couldn't hear anything.

I figured the speakerphone volume, handset volume, or ringer volume would affect the ability to hear the phonebook - but never figured the KEYPAD volume would affect it

Thanks anyway

It's so you know how to pronounce the names the way the V710 will recognize them. I used it to figure out why it would not call "IBM Voice Mail" when I spoke "EYE BEE EM VOICE MAIL". I used the Voice feature of phone book to discover I need to speak "IBBUM VOICE MAIL." LOL

FYI if you separate the letters "I B M" with spaces in your phonebook it'll pronounce them separately. What I can't figure out is that *some* acronyms are spelled out, and others aren't! The only think I can figure so far is that the ones with vowels in them are interpreted as words/names, while consonants only are interpreted as acronyms.

FYI- also it has no idea that ibm is an acronym. if you put a space between the letters (I B M) it will recognize EYE-BEE-EM and it will work.

Check your key volume setting, it has to be on something other than 0. Sounds funny, but that is what I found makes the phonebook "speak" 😁

AHHHHHHH - that's IT!!!!!

Nice work rls01!!!

My RINGER volume was fine (I put it high...)
but in the "Volume detail" for my "Loud" setting - I had the "KEYPAD VOLUME" down to "0"

Now I can hear the voice.

Thanks!!!
