I have Motorola Phone Tools 2.0 and the USB data cable. I cannot get the software to reconize the phone. When I plug in the USB cable XP detects a Motorola V878 - V690 modem and not a V710. Any ideas? This is driving me nuts

this is a common problem -- run live update 2 or 3 times on mpt then plug your phone in and use your device manager to update the driver of the yellow question mark or usb modem to the one found here on your computer

C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf

What brand is your cable? If you bought the FutureDial Cable at Radio Shack, then there's your problem because Motorola OEM cables and even the aftermarket ones will show "Motorola USB Modem" for pretty much all Motorola phones.

Actually, even if you don't run all the updates. It will still detect as a Motorola USB Modem in the device manager. MPT using it will require all the updates but the driver portion will work fine.

I knew you had the FutureDial Cable because every Motorola cable has always identified the phone as "Motorola USB Modem" in the device manager. T-Mobile has the entire Motorola Data Cable and Mobile Phone Tools 2.0 for $39.99 with a 30 day money back guarantee at their corporate stores. You just need to ask them for the V300 or V600 data kit.

FutureDial cable will only work with FutureDial's software. It is not compatible with Motorola's PhoneTools or Motorola's P2K Drivers for using PST and P2kMan with. Check on HowardForums.com in the Motorola forum for more info on how to modify the FutureDial cable so it'll work.

Thanks for the info Almighty.
I already returned the futuredial cable and bought an aftermarket Moto cable off e-bay for $2.00 with a car charger. Even after shipping, the whole thing will cost $7.00 for both ... I'll just go that route.

Thx
