New Every Two Scam

Bono

Aug 11, 2004, 5:26 PM
Like many of you, I waited anxiously for this phone. One of the reasons was my V60 was on it's last leg, and I wanted it to hold on to use my "New Every Two".

When I got to the store today, I see the price at $249 with 2 year contract. I'm thinking great... $149 with $100 towards phone.

NOPE! I'm informed that the $249 price includes a rebate and that I can't have the rebate AND New Every Two discount. What??? Where is this written? It isn't... What a scam that whole deal is. So.. in the end.. I used the $100 off the original price to get phone at $229. So.. I held onto a crappy V60 way past it's time for a lousy 30 bucks.

I let them know how I felt. Ever since Verizon has been the number one network, the customer se...

You got ripped dude.

At VZW.com a NE2 and 2 yr contract renewal means $149.99+tax. The $100 NE2 and $70 rebate (they call it "Internet Discount") are added automatically. No mail-ins. No nothing. And free shipping.

I got ripped too. I ordered the phone online right after it became available at about 10:30 Am EST. There was no $70 online discount, but I was hoping for a rebate. Now I checked and the discount is there. So Im on the phone with VZ Cust. Svc, trying to get an adjustment, without delaying the shipment of the phone.

Yep, it worked! Phone is on its way, being delivered tomorrow, credit is being issued to my card, thanks to Jennifer at the internet order dept. Only cost me another 1/2 hour on the phone. Could be worse.

That's what I was charged as well, but they gave me a coupon for a $70 mail-in rebate, bringing the price to the expected $149.99.

You need to go talk to someone else or the manager of the store, or go to a different store.

where did you go. i went to my verizon store this morning. my cost was $219 (which included my $100 off), without it it would have been 319 and I got the $70 rebate. so my cost will be $149 when all said and done. i did have to renew my contract for another 2 years. otherwise i couldn't use my new every 2 credit.

REALLY????

They wouldn't let me do that... Actually... I think I see the scam. They are going to send the rebate form in. They charged me $219... (giving me the 319 less 100 new every two) took the rebate form saying they gave it to me instantly... and now they are going to send it in.

Wow.. who do I report them to?

I got the NE2 $100 off AND a rebate form to mail in. Of course that doesn't mean I'll actually have the $75 mailed back to me.

On the rebate form it clearly states "cannot be combined with any other offer". The dweebs at your store may take that to define the NE2 as an offer, and as far as I am concerned it is NOT an offer, it was part of the deal you received when you got your previous form.

Here's two numbers to call that are on the rebate form:

1.800.2.JOIN.IN (which is by the way preceded by "*Participating* Verizon Wireless Stores or kiosks...") and also this number 1-888-826-4932.

Good luck!

Go in or send a friend in and ask for a rebate form for the 710. My rebate form wasn't attached to the box. The guy had a tare off pad. The rebate does not have to be in until November 1st so you have some time to take care of this matter even if that means calling a few dozen numbers until you can talk to management.

Thanks... but that is part of it. THEY took the upc label thing that I'll need for the rebate. The guy told me he was doing me a favor and giving me the rebate up front. Plus $30 from my new every two. When actually...I think he gave me my new every two... but DIDN'T give the rebate, planning to pocket it himself. He claimed to be the manager. So.. I can't go back to that store. I guess I should try another... and if it was a scam. Report him.

This sounds like BS. Call another local VZW and ask to speak to the manager. Ask for a regional managers phone number. In most cases managers of other stores love to help get someone from another store in trouble.

OK, here's the trick. You have to call customer service and then scream, yell, threaten and cajole...and when that doesn't work, you have to speak to a supervisor...and when that doesn't work you have to speak to him/her supervisor. I am in the middle of a NE2, and I called to try to find a way of avoiding paying full price when I have been a good, long-time customer of VZW. What the rep said was that he would give me a $100 credit on my bill as a courtesy credit, but no other discounts or rebates -- effectively bringing the price to $319. When I purchased the phone today at VZW, they told me to call customer service to activate the credit. They then told me I had to sign on for another two years. We had a LONG argument (actually I was...

I bought the phone today in NJ. The price is $320 for a 2 year contract, less $70 mail in rebate, less $100 for the every 2 deal. I paid $220 + tax, and as soon as I decide to keep the phone, I will mail in the UPC code from the box for the $70 rebate. The phone will cost me $150!

Try this. If you would have ordered the phone online, you would have gotten an INSTANT $70 online discount - no form to send in. Course you would've had to wait til tomorrow for the phone, but it seems worth it.
