The Pride Of Radio Shack

Well that did not take long. I just had a customer come into the VZW store where I work with a V710 with a burnt-out display. The buttons still worked, it could still dial out but the display did not light up. He said he's had it for 1 DAY! The RS where he bought it thru told him to come to a corporate store to get it swapped out. First off, VZW stores normally do not swap out RS or any other agent's phones, especially phones we don't have in stock! I have dealt with some pissed off customers before, but this guy takes the cake.

sORRY, but I have to disagree with you on that one. In the past, service bays at VZW stores did not service or even touch a phone purchased through an indirect VZ...

The point of my post was that Radio Shack would not help him out AT ALL. He was sent to my store, told by RS that we could swap it out. I don't know if any stores have recieved V710 fru's, but not in my area yet.

He might have been sent to your store because the RS he went to didn't have any others to swap with him. In order to get the customer's service up and running as fast as possible, they may have assumed that a verizon corp store would probably have more stock of V710's from which to replace the defective unit on the spot.

Long shot, but hey, it's what I'd have done. It's conceivable that the little tidbit of "we sold you the last one we have, so try a corporate store to see if they have any replacements today" was lost in translation, so to speak. No doubt the guy was furious at having a phone break on the first day. Yikes...hopefully he just hit some freakish button combo that turns off the display, maybe to save power 🙂 - I did that on ...

I don't think he hit any button combo, I removed the battery & restarted it. Still blank. Seems to be the same that always happened to the T720/730's

This happened to me on a v60i. Assurion sent me another phone, and that one did the same thing....2 days later! Assurion sent me yet another, and I have been fine since.

BANSHEE98,

I understood your point which I like. I were not a VZW employee and I was a regular wireless consumer, I would never initiate service through RADIO SHACK. The reason why I say this is because FIRTS OFF, Their insurance stinks! Second, I am a vzw customer service rep and I get calls everyday from new cst's that just opened an acct. through RS and there is always a problem with their acct's. It seems to be that RS either gives you the $10.00 add. charge for night and weekends or they dont give you n+w special. This causes all sort of complications with their first and second bills which makes us (VZW) look bad. In addition, if you open a family share plan, RS is knowon for placing both lines on totally different acct. levels whic...

Sounds like that Radioshack Rep who refered him to Verizon to get the V710 swapped wasnt willing to give up a V710. Since they are so popular right now, the rep may have wanted to save one for a new sale. Hopefully this was just one bad unit and there isnt a bad batch out there. We are already at 200 + pages, Just imagine how fast the posting would increase if this was the case of bad units.

That may be, but since the corp stores don't have it yet, RS probably still had to give one up
