V710 orders from radioshack have been cancelled

I called this morning and spoke to a rep who said my order had been cancelled. Apparently she actually delt with a few people with this issue and said they contacted local stores to find availability for pickup (when the stores receive them). Apparently non-activated phones are not supposed to be shipped out through the mail(according to her) and this phone basically slipped through the ordering cracks. She said my card would be issued a credit.

Interestingly enough I placed the order on Sunday, called yesterday morning to find that the phone supposedly shipped but did not have a tracking # yet. The lady I spoke to this morning said the rep I spoke with yesterday assumed it was shipped because there was a link for a shipper but no tra...

She said she helped someone track down a store that claims they would have them by thursday, friday at latest. My local store was not open yet so I couldn't do the same, I plan on calling later on today.

Jesus f****** tapdancing christ i just called the number on the reciept to check, and it has been cancelled. They said the store "ordered it wrong" and that there's a certain way that they have to order cell phones, so apparantly all of our orders were "wrong." So now I've got to make another trip to the store, get my order refunded, and then reorder it and so then i guess it'll come in friday.

I'm so sick and tired of the BULLSH!T with this phone. It's getting to the point that when i do end up getting it, i'll just want to throw it against the wall.

i work at radioshack and this was the news today NEW VERIZON HANDSET: MOTOROLA V710 (170-1971)
* The Motorola V710 has it all! It is Bluetooth-enabled and includes 1.2
megapixel camera, video capture for playback and e-mail, and an MP3 player.
(You can even use MP3s as ringtones!)
* The V710 comes with 10 MB of internal memory. With a special 128 MB
TransFlash card (440-1925), you can store dozens of pictures, up to three
minutes of video, or play back your favorite MP3s.
* The advanced voice dialing system lets you use the speakerphone or your
Bluetooth headset and say the name of the person you're calling. There's no
need to record their name ahead of time!
* Approximately 2500 stores will carry the V710. It sells...

2500 out of 7000 stores? With the clusterf*uck of shipping issues and only 1/3 of stores getting it, this phone may be harder to get than anticipated.

ok for one there are about 5,000 stores and alot of stores are franchised owned store so they dont get corporate shipments like we do so any major radioshack will have it like a mall store or a strip store that does alot of business but dont go to some store in BFE and expect to see a 710.

You know, it's no biggie that the phone isn't coming today. It'll get here when it gets here. Another week, so be it. It's the fact that RS has no f*cking clue what's going on that is the annoying part.

Personally, if they screwed up, they shoudl have stopped new orders, but honored existing orders since it's their fault they screwed up. Instead, they decided to jam everyone. I used to work for the Shack in the early 90's. I see nothing's changed with them 🙂

Apparently, Verizon is in control more than we give them credit. They are probably still calling the shots on when Radio Shack sells the phone.

Actually the rep I spoke with said these orders should have never been allowed in the first place. They said they do not allow non-activated phones to be shipped because of scam possibilities. I don't see how that is any different than buying a non-activated phone that is in stock. Either way you have your face on the cameras (if there are any) and your credit card is presented. All the reps I spoke with from 800-THE-SHACK would not allow me to place a phone order for the v710 back on Sunday, they said you can only order phones from the store.

This leads me away from the Verizon conspiracy theory. It was simply a hole in their system that they patched before anything slipped through 😕

I am not surprised either. Didn't think that VZW would allow a second tier vendor to trump them on an item that they are using as a huge marketing tool (first mega-pixel camers & bluetooth for CDMA).

Sounds like RS inadvertently opened up the SKU# in their system and some enterprising employee tried to exploit it too early.

Then when the information "leaked" on this and other wireless boards, the spike in orders and complaints from the rest of us to VZW asking how can this be... well I'm sure that VZW told RS to hold off.

I also would not think that VZW did this for profit reasons only. Believe it or not, VZW does not make much margin on these phones (remember the subsidy thing). They actually make their money on your air time. The ...

technically radioshack is a second tier vendor but radioshack activates and upgrades more accounts than verizon does so why would verizon want to hold out on a phone for radioshack wouldnt be the best business move

Yeah, I don't buy this Verizon thing. They are potentially stomping out new sales of their service. Most likely, it is simply a RS-only screwup.

I'm sure sure either today or tommorow we will see postings of Radioshack personel letting us know if the V710 was on their packing list for this week. I can see the delay due to the overwelming request for the phone. Either way it took Motorola this long to release the phone, whats a few more days. Maybe its good it took them this long to get the phone out. The longer they hold on to a phone to test the better testing an equip has a chance to go through. I am sure the issues that people had with the 720 or 730 played a part in the delay of releasing the phone.

Trust me when I say, if we don't have it available at the main sales office, then Radioshack won't be able to sell it. We always get the new stuff first. This isn't going to be in stock until between Aug 3-8 approx. Hope that helps.
