Cingular is GSM, jerky. And give GSM about 6 months and their footprint will be larger than the CDMA network.
Cingular's current network is split between TDMA and GSM technology. However, Cingular will soon be moving to all GSM/GPRS technology, followed by EDGE, as their 3G upgrade path. The new networks will be an overlay, meaning the existing TDMA networks will continue to operate for many years.

Ahh, but part of the reason why Verizon's coverage rules (and Cingular or AT&T were great in some areas with TDMA) is because they have the 800 MHz band.
The big thing is that, 2-3 years down the road, when they've enticed enough folks to get GSM/EDGE/UMTS phones and managed to move most of the large cities to having UMTS in the 800 MHz band, there's the distinct potential for them to reall...
