Has Motorola "fixed" their phonebook interface?

I'm referring to the "one huge bag o' phone numbers" that I currently have in my V60, where I have 3 seperate name entries for Jack Smith (Home), Jack Smith (Work), and Jack Smith (Mobile).

Most other manufacturers have grouped the phone numbers by name (Jack Smith), with listings for Home, Work, Mobile, etc. under Jack Smith's name. This is a huge help when trying to find your way to a person's phone number.

That's pretty funny, as I have that old "antique" StarTac... Which groups phone numbers by name.

I wonder why they switched? Did it have something to do with the voice dial feature? perhaps they couldn't figure out a way to make that work.

My Motorola Timeport P6767 grouped phone numbers by name as well.

Yeah, it is pretty funny that Motorola would go significantly backwards in usability. It's even more amazing that they haven't seemed to fix it on some of their recent phones, either. I'm sure that they must have received some complaints from customers, or their Ergonomics design people.

I don't know why they switched, since other manufacturers have found solutions to the voice dialing feature. The SE T610 that I'm trying out right now has you provide a Voice name for a specific person, and Voice items such as "Home", "Work", "Mobile", and "Other". When you speak the Voice Name and Voice Item, you get the resulting phone number: "Jack Smith - Work".

This has mystified...

I asked this question about 2 months ago, and the answer from the manual states that each # will have it's own speed dial entry for quick playback. However in the phonebook, you will have the option to sort by name, and specify which of the numbers for that name is the primary one. Seems very similar to the old StarTac way of doing things.

If someone who owns the phone can confirm this however, I'll also be most appreciative.

I stand Corrected; from Howard Forums:

As for the phonebook, it does not group the entries but shows them as separates in the phonebook list. I too prefer them grouped. For those who are familiar with the V600's menus, the V710 is 95% identical to the V600 but much faster... The V810, on the other hand, does group multiple phonebook entries by name.

I think it's a what-kind-of-person-you-are sort of issue. My wife *hated* her old StarTac that grouped by number and *loves* her new T730 that doesn't.

That's interesting!

I'm guessing that she doesn't have 300+ phone numbers in her phone, where she has to sort through 30 or so "M" names to get to one somewhere near the middle. Sometimes I'll put an "N" in and go backwards if I think it'll be quicker.
