New Firmware - Charging Issues

Visioneer

It seems that since I've refinished the phone with the new firmware, I occasionally seem to have problems charging the phone. It comes up with a message that says 'Unable to Charge' after 5 or so minutes on the charger. At first it seems OK -- then the message appears.

It seems as if this happens if I try to charge with the phone turned ON (which I usually do), but also when the keypad is 'LOCKED' using the MENU * combination to lock it.

I think that everything is OK when the keypad lock is NOT activated. This is a brand new thing that I'm seeing so I'm not absolutely sure about the circumstances leading up to the problem.

Has anyone else seen this problem??

Unfortunately, that's called Motorola. They always have these charge issues 🤭

CLEAN the contacts on the charger and the charger port on the phone... that is usally the problem. (VZW will do it for you if you don't want to do it yourself.) They did mine a few years ago on another Moto.

Thanks for the response -- unfortunately, I've done all of that. This occurs with both the 115v and car charge cables. It seems more prevalent with the car cable though.

You said it was when the keypad was locked, how do you get just the keypad locked? I have seen the lock option on the phone, but when I do a lock the phone does not ring/vibrate when I get a call so it is kind of pointless for me to have it locked ever. I'm just curious if there is a different keypad lock that I am not seeing. It says something about Menu * in the original message, but that doesn't seem to do anything for me. Thanks for any help.

if you have the new firmware (.OR), Menu + * locks all keys on your phone. FWIW, you don't have to hold Menu down, just push Menu then push * relatively fast and it should work just fine.

that would be where the problem lies, i haven't had a reason to go get the new firmware yet and didn't want to mess with the seam changes for TF if i didn't have to. But i would like the keypad lock very much, my only other question is does it 'lock' the keys on the sides like volume and speakerphone etc.?? I'm just asking because i have on occasion hit them while the phone is in my pocket and ended up changing the ring style by accident. Thanks again for the info.

Yes -- the side keys get locked. The only thing that you can do with the side keys is pop up the clock.

This is great -- because I was always unknowingly turning off my ringtone.

I've also got my phone set to answer on 'any key' being pressed -- and you DON'T have to unlock the keypad for this feature to work. You can still answer while the keypad lock is applied.

I am very satisfied with the new firmware update. (after having done the seem edits) I consider the few little glitches left to be minor ones.

I agree completely with Visioneer. It's nice that it locks every button including the outside ones, but that you can also answer the phone or even tap the outer volume toggle to do a soft ignore while the keys are locked down.

Keep us posted on your update!

Easy solution. Don't charge the phone with the battery on. It's better for the battery anyway.

😁 😁
