Alltel V710

Hi guys, this has been a very helpful site, even though i don't have my phone yet. I was wondering if there were any Alltel service users here and also if the bluetooth funcitionality was crippled in the same way that VZW had done to their phones? The wallstreet article claimed that Alltel allows the phone to function as motorola had intended it to.
Also, Alltel has recalled the v710 due to "networking" problems, can anyone confirm this, and explain exactly what that is? I have been waiting since december and was promised mid of january; however, the release date is now expected for sometime this month. Is there any news on this? I have my tf card and the hs810 headset already, and they are just a little lonely.

From what I've read, and experienced personally, if I were you, I'd buy a v710 either from Alltel or USC. BT works via MPT, and I haven't experienced any of the problems that my Verizon cohorts have. Although, my guess would be that Motorola's intent was for this phone to function as all their other BT phones..not limited to TFlash for transferring of info. Though I don't mind so much, it certainly is a plus to be able to add memory to the phone, especialy with the MP3 player. And regarding the Alltel "recall," no one has sent me a letter nor have I received a phone call regarding returning my phone as a part of this recall. Not to say it's not true, but if it is... they forgot one. I say go get your phone dude, I love mine.

same here, Im an alltel user and I love my 710. It seems all the usc and allte customers love it. The verizon customers are the only ones with problems with their "handicap" phone. I had the slider phone for alltel and the reception was not that great but with the 710, man it seems like virtuall every where all my bars are up, it may drop down one but I have yet to see it drop down further. It may have but not while I was looking at it. Everything on my phone works with wonders. I say get it.

Thanks for the reassurance on the phone, only still no word from my reps as far as a public release. I did speak to one last week and he said that he was pulling some strings and getting a new 710 early.

You still don't have the v710 is Louisiana yet? So, are you going to get an Alltel version and activate it on Verizon or going with Alltel service as well?

I am going with the Alltel service, verizon isn't very big in this area. Mainly Cingular and Alltel. The phone was out b/c a few people do have the v710, but apparently the networking problems caused it to be recalled. By networking i think they mean there is not high speed telecommunication towers in this area, but i am not sure at all. Hopefully the tf mp3 function will not be disabled. If so i will just do the flash, but alltel does not seem like it is trying to prohibit its customers from any of tje v710's intended functions from what i have read.

From what I have been able to gather, the V710, whether sold by Verizon, US Cellular or Alltel does not have OBEX.

There were a couple of unbranded units that got out, but Motorola does not sell this phone, in the United States, directly to the end user with full stack Bluetooth like the V600, V525, V620, V551, V505, V80 or RAZR V3. You can't purchase the phone directly from Motorola at all.

Someone, please correct me if I am wrong.

No I don't believe that you are wrong...it appears to be no OBEX in the states, outside of the ones Moto let slip out. But in my opinion, the Tflash is a good work around and if you have the Alltel or USC version, or have flashed your Verizon version, you can get BT via MPT. OBEX would be nice, but it's not going to happen with this phone, so you gotta decide what's really important and if you really need it...another phone is the option, other wise all is well. I love my phone, as I've stated several times before and don't have any complaints with my Alltel version.

happy dave, when you say that you can use BT via MPT does this mean that you need the usb bluetooth kit? or it would work similiar to OBEX with simply the mpt software without any additional hardware.

Yeah, I am wondering why Verizon is the only carrier only being sued when all of the carriers who brought the phone to mark...
