Verizon does NOT support file xfer via tf card

I contacted Verizon about rumors that they have broken the tf card as well as the bluetooth. Here is there response in its entirety:

Hello David,

Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless website. As part of our Worry Free Guarantee, your concern becomes our concern the first time you contact us. We are happy to assist you with your picture transfer question.

Officially, Verizon Wireless does not support transferring pictures and ringtones via the TransFlash card. However, transferring pictures and ringtones via the TransFlash card may work.

Verizon Wireless currently supports the following functions on the Motorola V710:

- Wireless headsets
- Wireless car kits (voice calls only, no syncing contacts)
- Di

Note that they do not officially support file transfers, but they may work! Cripes!

*sigh*

That *is* going to piss me off.

I want to be able to have my own ringtones. Not clips of commercial songs, but *my* ringtones. I don't *want* the Lord of the Rings theme as a ringtone. It's a really dumb "revenue hole" to close -- most people aren't going to want to bother with ripping an MP3 of a song, clipping out the good bit, and using that for a ringtone.

Removing features via a flash is always a *bad* idea. Remember, the v71...

I say let Verizon go ahead with this and show the cellular world how foolish they really are! It would make better business sense to let dissatisfied people out of their contracts than to force them to stay on for the duration of a contract -- all the while grousing about the poor treatment by Verizon. A really smart company would buy back the phone and let them go simply to end the poor publicity. I for one have got a year and a half of dark advertising left to give them, and I intend to give everyone that will listen an earfull!

This bluetooth/transflash thing is just the icing on the cake. I've had to go back every single month since I've re-upped my contract to get the billing straight -- and they don't have it right yet.

im sorry, has verizon ever said that they support transferring files via tf? maybe this is just me overanalyzing things, but its like walking into a candy store and taking candy, and the store saying they perhaps dont condone stealing. because thats what were doing. Hey guys, verizon charges for downloading ringtones and pictures... we dont. pay for it when we use it. I for one dont think they are going to be like of course it works! dont download from us, invest in a tf card!!

Maybe they haven't said outright that they support TF files transfers -- but automotive suppliers don't say outright that your car will roll silently down the road.

However they put tires on it to make it do that -- and I'll bet you'd be pretty PO'd if they took back your tires when you took your car in for service! The point is that the features were either deceptively implied, already present, or specified as forthcoming by the company representatives. What is said here has no consequence. What is said or intentionaly left unsaid by the company when specifically queried -- has significance.

Another thing that comes to mind is the fact that Verizon does this supposed exhaustive testing of their firmware. How is it that TF supports fil...

actually, the new firmware has leaked and it reportedly disables the transfer of ringtones, but still allows for transfer of wallpapers/pics.

Nothing a 41a seems can't handle though. Currently, it is possible to to use Bluetooth to transfer contacts/datebook, and still everything to and from the TF card, but the latter because of a seem hack. Go to HoFo and d/l it and check it out. This is the way the v710 was mostly intended.

Uh, yeah, in Texas. Quite a few folks have reported that they walked into a VW store and had their phones updated. A phone call to that store verfies this as truth. Also, you can download the new firmware on HoFo so it is available one way or another. Therefore it is NOT A RUMOR! 😛

Well bandy, I just got my brand-spanking-new v710 yesterday... when my tf card arrives, I'll report back. I'm assuming I have the lastest release of the firmware (maybe a rash assumption).
If the thing don't work, it's going back.

Uh, nitefury, what the heck is the point in plunking down all that cash for the Moto v710 if its prime features are disabled??

Bad example. Of course Verizon wants us to use their service for putting pictures and ring tones on our phones. But if we get them from some place else or make them ourselves we shouldn't pay Verizon for that. That's like paying a store selling candy bars for one that you made your self.

Yeah, imagine if you bought a PDA phone, but discovered you could not put your own software on it, but had to use GiN. Lame!

Yeah tell me about it. Imagine getting an XBox or PS2 and have to buy all the games and extra controllers and memory cards. Geez that would suck...

Please note the tremendous amount of sarcasm...

If you read the virginal post, I'm not sure Verizon has disabled anything. The post can be read simply that it's an unsupported feature. Furthermore, the original post indicates that Verizon suggests that feature is supported by Motorola.

Remember, that feature wasn't supported before by Verizon and it worked. This could be the same outcome after the firmware update.

Alternatively, Verizon may disable the feature in the next firmware, but we don't know yet since the final release of the new firmware hasn't occurred.

We need to keep pressure on Verizon so it will know that a price will be paid for treating us poorly.

I agree. Got my new 710 yesterday, tf card is on its way. When it gets here, I'll report back. If it doesn't work, it's going back.

On another note, I notice the USB cable occupies the slot for the power supply as well, but it doesn't seem to be drawing power from the USB because when using the phone for a modem, the battery drains quickly. My old clunky Kyocera 2235 could plug in to the power supply AND the USB at the same time, so I could be online for hours. ☚ī¸

What version is the firmware? If it's 8700_01.30.8f, you are using what all of us are using. If it isn't, we expect a full report. ;)

I'd suggest that you return the USB cable and get a bluetooth USB nubbin. Same functionality, but no fighting over the power supply. That's what I do. ;)

Alternatively, get a specially-designed charge-and-synch cable for the v710.

It's 8700_01.30.8f -- nothing new.

Hey, thanks for the ideas... I didn't know they had a charge-and-synch cable. Bluetooth would be even better. I'm on it.

Really?? Mine's Moto (p/n AAKN4011A), but it occupies the power slot on the phone, and I don't see a place for the power to plug into the cable itself (that's how the Kyocera worked).
