Verizon has no idea when the new firmware will be coming out or when anything will be coming out
The problem really seems to be "Company Policy" as different Customer Service reps give different information.
Last week, I got a December date and this weekend, to the same question I got this:
...
Dear Verizon Wireless Customer,
Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless website.
At this time we do not have a time frame as to when a new firmware for the V710 will be available. We apologize for the misinformation, but December 2004 is not the correct answer. We apologize for the inconvience. It is part of our company policy not to release information regarding upcoming pr

seems to me that verizon is so big that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing so i guess i am in a holding pattern because so far the best answers i have recieved from verizon (or moto too for that matter ) are the ones where they ignore my questions

there is also some threads on hof indicating that the "altell flash" that was devised might have some unforseen side effects and that the phone might niot register properly with verizon networks and cause you to be charged plan minuets as opposed to in network minuets

I was also reading the posts from that guy who has furnished screen captures of the PDF regarding the new beta firmware release. I was reading the screen captures and I find them to be quite credible. It seems to me that this guy is either an engineer for Moto. or some sort of QA tester for Moto. The PDF seems to be a list of directives from VZW on what they want to accomplish with this beta firmware.
In case you don't know which documents I'm referring to, they are here:

Thanks for the link. I almost felt sorry for this guy the way he was attacked on HoFo.

I'm just going to sit back, watch and wait. The features of this phone were more of a fun thing than a need, and frankly this is taking all of the fun out of it. When it stops being fun, then it's time to buy your way out and say adios to Verizon. That's just about where I'm at! This firmware release will be the test, if it ever happens. It's a neat phone -- but none of us needs this BS
You call it duped -- I call it misrepresented, either way it's a problem that could have legal consequences. It's not my choice of action, but some will choose legal action --- and I sincerely wish then success!

The Class Action Suit is alive and well at V710.org, now that the 4 month statute has passed, since the release of the phone.
They are going after Verizon, Motorola and the Bluetooth Standards group for authorizing the use of the "Bluetooth Trademark" without disclosing the limitations of the profiles in the V710.
A phone manufacturer comes out with a software update. The manufacturer tests it internally amongst themselves. It then has to be "blessed" by Qualcomm if it's their chipset. Then, once that is done, it's passed on to the carrier (Verizon). Verizon then does their own qualification testing to make sure the software works on their network. They are ultimately responsible if there are glitches because the customer is going to come screaming to them, not Motorola (in most cases). Believe me, they take their time and do very extensive testing.
So ultimately, Motorola and Verizon are equally responsible for getting you the software update. I'd say...
