there have been a lot of posts on this subject i had the 820 first then purchased the 810 i liek it much better because the phone will not ring when it is connected to a headset. the 820 you have to drop it from the phone useing the bluetooth menu everytime you finish a call or turn it off if you want the phone to ring then turn it on takes longer then you have to answer a call

the 810 turns off when you fold it and on when you unfold it -- it automatically connects to the phone and allows you to answer in about 3 seconds just the right amount of time it takes to put it on

just my opinion

the earpiece beeps when it's set on bluetooth mode.

i was actually annoyed the way my phone didn't ring when i set it to bluetooth. i fell asleep once and set the earpiece on the table, and my friend was trying to call me. and it just so happened that the earpiece was set to automatically answer, by default. so i had about 15 missed calls that morning. (i had the hs820)

I think then that you share my annoyance with the 820 when you talk with it it is a great unit -- it is just a pain when not in use you either have to always wear it or go thru some ocd's to have it work if you had the 810 you would have folded it up before placing it on the table and the phone would have rang normally

this makes it better in my opinion

i had both and the soud quality was identical on both ends

I with I had read the old topics before I bought the 820?!?!?

Weird though, the HS-820 is newer(?) with longer talk time, but cheaper than the HS810.

Only at Motorola!

I bought the 820 as well and that is my only complaint about it - but it is a big complaint.

I called Moto a week or so ago to complain and was told that the 820 was actually designed to work that way and they have no intentions to make the 710 ring when it is enabled.

The tier 2 tech said it was designed primarily for "car use". When I told the guy I bought it for use in my car but that i don't want to wear the headset for a 3 hour trip if I only expect 2 calls, he said...that's the way we designed it.

Go figure.

So I take it that you guys recommend the 810.
One more thing, where'd you find a tf card? Best Buy & Circuit City have been out of stock locally. Tiger Direct has them, but I don't think theirs comes with the SD adapter.
Thanks again.

I'm not happy with either. Both I and a guy at work found the 810 a bit more difficult to open and hook on your ear when driving. (one hand).

The 820 is fairly easy to get on while driving but again, the phone doesn't ring.

If you keep the 820 powered off, your handset will ring as normal, and then you just have to power the headset on when your phone rings. Yes, you do have time to do this. I do it all the time. It also saves battery life on the headset.

you can also leave the HS820 on and then "drop" it from the handset. that way the phone will ring and all you have to do it tap the function button on the HS820 to answer. it's much quicker than powering-up the HS820 every time. remember, tho, you have to "drop" it after every call for this to work...seems like a pain, but i'm so used to it now that it's second-nature.

i believe the sequence is below (i set a shortcut of ok+4)

settings>connection...

that is great if you have the 820 and when i did it took the darn thing 8 seconds or so to power on -- just enough time for the call to go to voicemail

the 810 -- folded it is off -- unfolded it is on -- 3 seconds to connect -- plenty of time and no buttons to hold -- same call clarity and almost as good battery life (much improved in the 850)
so my advice is if you haven't purchased buy the 810 or the 850 if you can find -- if you have well learn to live with it

Or you could read the original message to know what the problem was, spiff. If you would have taken the time to do that, you would know that the original question was how to eliminate the background noise that someone hears once you flip the 810 or the 850 open before you get it on your ear. But I guess by your other Forum responses and this one that you don't take the time to read the entire story, you just feel the need to throw your opinion in. So, this is just typical.

Geez i am really sorry sir -- didn't mean to offend with my opinion - just trying to be helpful here but you know in the future i will try to do it with out my opinion

would that make you happy

good we are all happy here

good night to you and again i am sorry if my opinion hurt or offended or if you feel that it just wasted your time

oh and by the way i have not experienced that problem -- the noise that is
on the 810 or at least no one has told me that they hear any noise and
i still feel that the 810 is far superior to the 820

Thanks to SForsyth01 and dee1jay ร‚ย for these tips.

I will try both but dropping the BT connection while I'm driving seems to be a pain and maybe not practical.
